Aside from Post Modernism, probably the hottest topic today among socialist scholars world-wide is Market Socialism. In this book, four leading socialist scholars present both sides of the debate--two for, and two against--highlighting the different perspectives from which Market Socialism has been viewed. Arguing in favor of Market Socialism are the philosophers David Schweickart and James Lawler. While opposing them and Market Socialism are the political economist Hillel Ticktin and the political theorist Bertell Ollman. The evidence and arguments found in this book will prove invaluable to readers interested in the future of socialism.

Beginning with The Simpsons and ending with The Da Vinci Code, the entertaining sections in this book uncover profound philosophical and religious ideas in pop culture. Each work covered contains a challenge to both standard religious orthodoxy and secular science. In The Simpsons Movie, although Homer must be dragged off his couch to church, he experiences a spiritual epiphany with an Inuit shaman woman. In the film of The Da Vinci Code, Robert Langdon proposes that the human is the divine.” The author makes a striking case here for pop culture as a hotbed of alternative thinking.

My book of verses is a collection of poems I havewritten throughout the years. Some are inspired by events in my life. Others are purely figments of my imagination. I write about people I have encountered, news event. the way I see the world and the things around me, anything and everything that inspires me. I try not to offend anyone by making blanket statements or speaking in absolutes. The way I see the world is strictly from my point of view and not intended to be construed as factual. I might appear to be preaching from a soap box, at times. I hope not but we all see the world in different ways. I write about the way I see it. My poems are intended for anyone that can open a book. I attempt to add a bit of humor, a little drama, a lot of love, a touch of evil. In essence I have mixed a variety of ingredients together to make it interesting. The purpose of my poetry is to, hopefully, take the reader away from reality for a while. Its intended to relax the mind for a spell I believe that is the purpose of a book. It is like a fountain of knowledge where the thirsty mind can be quenched. It can be a companion for the lonely at heart, an oasis in the midst of reality where one can escape for a while. Poetry is my passion. Its my escape from reality, my high, so to speak. a tranquilizer to combat lifes stressful moments.

This book contains a collection of short stories, my labor of love; Ive honed to my satisfaction. Theres love stories, mystery stories, humorous stories and Im sure that some of the content will bring a tear to the readers eye. During my life-time Ive seen much violence and corruption which I have attempted to tone down by humanizing in my writings, to remove the ugliness, or at least make light of it and in some instances turn it into humor. Life isnt all glamour, its not simple, its complicated; nor is life predictable. Life is harse and sometimes we have no control over events in our lives. When Im stressed out I pick up a book and escape. Part of me is incorporated in my writing, as is with many writers. Ive attempted to suspend reality by creating a respite, an escape a safe place for the reader to get away from it all. Open the cover and read, weep and enjoy.

"e;In the Twinkling of an Eye"e; is a story about espionage, family love, and loyalty, focused on a Russian-North Korean conspiracy to develop a devastating biological weapon for assassination, terror and genocide, as written by a senior CIA operations officer whose career was devoted to battling the spread of weapons of mass destruction. This is the second book in the thrilling Guild Series! In 1986, a Ukrainian teenager loses his father and his own left eye to the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, but he escapes and becomes a top-notch genetics engineer at Moscow State University. There, he is seduced into joining a well-funded new genetics institute where he hopes to develop a genetic solution (better than CRISPR) to cure his twelve-year old daughter's leukemia that is a result of her damaged genes that she inherited from his radiation exposure. But soon he learns that the Institute is actually a coverup run by the Russian intelligence service and is secretly developing advanced genetic bioweapons with the North Koreans for assassination, terror, and genocide. The Ukrainian scientist feels he must remain at the institute, however, in order to find a cure for his dying daughter. Parallel to this story, a young North Korean girl escapes to South Korea via a North Korean attack tunnel beneath the DMZ. Her father, the North Korean military mining engineer who designed the tunnel, dies during the attempt, and she loses her younger brother with whom she was escaping. She is adopted by a Korean-American US military officer and grows up to be an FBI special agent devoted to battling WMD, who secretly recruits the Ukrainian scientist. In the course of their work, the FBI agent equips the Ukrainian scientist with a new glass eye with microelectronics on the nano scale that enables him to record covertly everything he sees and hears and transmit his intelligence to her daily through one of his daughter's dolls that has advanced artificial intelligence. It is perfect revenge for a character, who has lost his eye as a teenager, is scarred for life and has lost his beloved father due to Soviet incompetence at Chernobyl. The doll is virtually sentient and is a stand-in for the female FBI agent whom she resembles. In so doing, the agent overcomes the biggest obstacles that spies traditionally face: safely communicating frequently with their case officer for operational guidance and psychological reinforcement and transmitting critical information in a timely fashion. Together, the scientist and the FBI agent must prevent Russia and North Korea from using the bioweapons for assassination and mass murder of regime opponents.

The Battle of Metaphysics in Modern Western Philosophy before Kant

Tillfälligt slut
This narrative shows how the contours of moral and political philosophy in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries were shaped by Kant's two distinct philosophical responses to the results of modern science. This history of early modern Western philosophy takes its inspiration from Kant's claim that the battle between the metaphysics of matter and that of spirit is the principal axis around which modern philosophy up to his time, in all its aspects, has revolved. The empiricist-materialist trend that dominates in England is first examined in the progressively unfolding works of Hobbes, Locke, Berkeley, Hume, and Adam Smith. A contrasting and competing dialectic develops in the rationalist/spiritualist trend in the continental philosophy of Descartes, Leibniz, and Rousseau. Framing this history is the background context of the philosophy and science of Aristotle and the challenges to the traditional paradigm presented by the revolutionary sciences of Copernicus, Galileo, and Newton.James Lawler is Professor of Philosophy at the State University of New York at Buffalo.
