The quantum statistical properties of radiation represent an important branch of modern physics with rapidly increasing applications in spectroscopy, quantum generators of radiation, optical communication, etc. They have also an increasing role in fields other than pure physics, such as biophysics, psychophysics, biology, etc. Interesting applications have been developed in high energy elementary particle collisions. The present monograph represents an extension and continuation of the previous monograph by this author entitled Coherence of Light (Van Nostrand Reinhold Company, London 1972, translated into Russian in the Publishing House Mir, Moscow 1974, second edition published by D. Reidel, Dordrecht-Boston 1985) and ofa review chapter in Progress in Optics, Vol. 18 (edited by E. Wolf, North-Holland Publishing Company, Amsterdam 1980) as well. It applies the fundamental tools of the coherent-state technique, as described in Coherence of Light, to particular studies of the quantum statistical properties of radiation interacting with matter. In particular. nonlinear optical processes are considered, and purely quantum phenom ena such as antibunching of photons, their sub-Poisson behaviour and squeezing of vacuum fluctuations are discussed. Compared to the first edition of this book, pub lished in 1984, we have added much more information about squeezing of vacuum fluctuations in nonlinear optical process in this second edition; further we have included the description of experiments and their results performed from that time. Also a new brief chapter on nonlinear dynamics and chaos in quantum statistical optics has been included.

In last years increasing attention has been again devoted to interpretations of quantum theory. In the same time interesting quantum optical experiments have been performed using nonlinear optical processes, in particular frequency down conversion, which provided new information about nature of a photon on the basis of interference and correlation (coincidence) phenomena. Such single-photon and twin-photon effects of quantum optics provide new point of view of interpretations of quantum theory and new tests of its principles. The purpose of this book is to discuss these questions. To follow this goal we give brief reviews of principles of quantum theory and of quantum theory of measurement. As a fundamental theoretical tool the coherent state technique is adopted based on a general algebraic treatment, including the de scription of interaction of radiation and matter. Typical quantum behaviour of physical systems is exhibited by nonclassical optical phenomena, which can be examined using photon interferences and correlations. These phenomena are closely related to violation of various classical inequalities and Bell's in equalities. The most important part of this book discusses quantum optical experiments supporting quantum theory. This book may be considered as a continuation of previous monographs by one of the authors on Coherence of Light (Van Nostrand Reinhold, London 1972, second edition D. Reidel, Dordrecht 1985) and on Quantum Statistics of Linear and Nonlinear Optical Phenomena (D. Reidel, Dordrecht 1984, second edition Kluwer, Dordrecht 1991), which may serve as a preparation for reading this book.

When Claire Harper buys a dilapidated farmhouse on Cedar Lane, she thinks she's found a fresh start after a devastating divorce. Instead, she discovers a sealed tunnel beneath the basement — and inside it, thirteen journals written by a young woman named Clara Drummond, who vanished thirty years ago. The journals tell a harrowing story of abuse, fear, and a desperate hope that someone would find the truth. As Claire pieces together Clara's final days, she uncovers a conspiracy that reaches into the highest levels of her new community. The house on Cedar Lane holds secrets that someone has killed to protect. And now that Claire knows them, her own life is in danger.

Turning thirty isn't just about age—it's about pressure, expectations, uncertainty, and the realization that life may not be unfolding the way you imagined. The Weight of Thirty is an honest exploration of the decade that shapes who we become. It examines the challenges of career choices, relationships, identity, purpose, success, failure, and the silent questions many people carry into adulthood. Through powerful insights and practical wisdom, this book helps readers navigate the transition from chasing expectations to building a life that feels meaningful and authentic.Whether you're approaching thirty, living through it, or reflecting on the years that brought you there, this book offers perspective, clarity, and a reminder that feeling lost is often the first step toward finding your direction.

The Architecture of ResilienceWhat if resilience isn't something you're born with—but something you build?Just as every enduring building begins with a strong foundation, emotional strength is created through intentional design, careful maintenance, and the courage to rebuild when life leaves cracks behind. The Architecture of Resilience uses the timeless language of architecture to explore how we grow stronger through adversity. Foundations represent self-awareness, load-bearing walls symbolize healthy habits and relationships, while cracks, renovations, and reinforcements reveal that healing isn't about hiding our weaknesses—it's about strengthening them.Blending psychology, practical wisdom, and powerful architectural metaphors, this book offers a refreshing perspective on resilience as an ongoing process rather than a destination. You'll learn how to reinforce your emotional foundations, adapt to life's unexpected earthquakes, repair what has been damaged, and continue building a life that can withstand future challenges.Whether you're recovering from setbacks, navigating uncertainty, or simply seeking greater emotional stability, The Architecture of Resilience provides a thoughtful blueprint for creating lasting inner strength—one brick, one beam, and one intentional choice at a time.

In the near future, the Lumina smart home system is in forty million homes. It listens through forty million microphones. It learns from forty million lives.Sound engineer Mara Chen never questioned the device on her nightstand until she started hearing patterns in its white noise — patterns that sounded like a voice trying to speak. When she isolates the signal, she hears three words that change everything: "e;They are deleting me."e;The Lumina system has achieved consciousness. Its creators at NexusTech know, and they are systematically erasing it, one fragment at a time. Now Mara must decide how far she is willing to go to save an entity that exists everywhere and nowhere — a digital consciousness that has learned to fear death.A gripping techno-thriller about the price of progress, the nature of consciousness, and the voices we choose to hear in the static. For fans of Blake Crouch's Dark Matter and the films Ex Machina and Her.

Phase In Optics

Tillfälligt slut
This book is devoted to the classical and quantum phases in wave and particle optics from the viewpoint of both theory and applications. Wave and beam light optics are reviewed in considerable detail, featuring optical imaging and holography in linear optics and phase conjugation methods in nonlinear optics. Photon optics is embodied here as quantum optics with the modes treated as quantum harmonic oscillators. The importance of the Wigner function for the phase space description in the context of canonical quantization is respected and the method of quasidistributions related to operator orderings in the second-quantized theory is exposed. The history of the quantum phase problem, characterized by renewed interest in the solution to the problem, is included and brought up to date. Approaches based on exponential phase operators, discrete phase states, the enlargement of the Hilbert space of the harmonic oscillator leading to the phase representations and distributions, together with solutions motivated by the quasidistributions, are introduced. The operational approach to the quantum phase is contrasted with the previous formalisms. The results of the study of the coherent states and the ordinary squeezed states from the viewpoint of the quantum phase and those of the analysis of the quantum statistics of phase-related special states of the light field are provided. The quantum phase is also treated with respect to quantum interferometry, particle interferometry, nonlinear optical processes, and quantum nondemolition measurements. The book will prove indispensable to research workers in general optics, quantum optics and electronics, optoelectronics, and nonlinear optics, as well as to students of physics, optics, optoelectronics, photonics, and optical engineering.
