Jean Hyppolites Ubersetzung der Hegel'schen Phanomenologie des Geistes ins Franzosische (1939-1941) ermoglichte in Frankreich zum ersten Mal eine differenzierte Auseinandersetzung mit Hegel. Mit seinen Texten zu Hegel wurde er zu einer zentralen Figur der franzosischen Nachkriegsphilosophie und pragte die folgende Generation beruhmter franzosischer Philosophen, darunter Louis Althusser, Michel Foucault, Gilles Deleuze und Jacques Derrida. In dem Band, der 1955 unter dem Titel Etudes sur Marx et Hegel veroffentlicht wurde, geht es Hyppolite um das viel diskutierte Verhaltnis zwischen Hegel und Marx. Der Band bietet die erste systematische Ubersetzung von Texten Hyppolites ins Deutsche. Er enthalt neun Aufsatze, die zwischen 1938 und 1952 bereits in verschiedenen franzosischen Zeitschriften erschienen waren.
