Mit seinen Texten zu Hegel wurde er zu einer zentralen Figur der französischen Nachkriegsphilosophie und prägte die folgende Generation berühmter französischer Philosophen, darunter Louis Althusser, Michel Foucault, Gilles Deleuze und Jacques Derrida.In dem Band, der 1955 unter dem Titel »Études sur Marx et Hegel« veröffentlicht wurde, geht es Hyppolite um das viel diskutierte Verhältnis zwischen Hegel und Marx.
