Religionskunskapen i skolan ska behandla de stora världsreligionerna, sekulära livsåskådningar, livsfrågor och etik. Det är ett brett fält som skapar många möjligheter och utmaningar för religionslärare. Religionsdidaktik handlar ytterst om de val vi lärare gör i samband med vår religionsundervisning: Vem/vilka är det jag undervisar? Vad ska jag ta upp och varför just detta stoff? Hur ska jag göra för att undervisningen ska bli så bra som möjligt? Denna antologi tar upp religionsdidaktiska frågor ur olika perspektiv. Här diskuteras teman som religion och kön, tro och vetande, fundamentalism, livsfrågor och etik tillsammans med mer tydligt metodiska frågor som hur man som religionslärare kan hantera studiebesök och rollspel. Bokens syfte är att stimulera till reflektion över religion och undervisning. Den syftar också till att inspirera till nya val och metoder som kan göra undervisningen roligare och bättre både för lärare och elever. Boken vänder sig i första hand till blivande och verksamma lärare i religionskunskap men också till andra yrkesgrupper med intresse för religionsundervisning.

Hunden och människan har följts åt sedan urminnes tider, något som har varit till fördel för båda arter. Hunden har bland annat fått skydd och föda, men samtidigt kunnat sprida sig över hela jorden. Människan har förstått att använda hunden för en rad ändamål, bl.a. har den fått vakta hennes bostäder och boskap, burit och släpat hennes ägodelar, givit sällskap och förnöjelse, samt tjänat som pälsproducent, medicinkälla och köttreserv. Hunden har dessutom spelat en viktig roll i människans religiösa och rituella liv. Mångsidigheten i hur hunden ingått i människans världsbilder vittnar om den komplexitet som kännetecknar banden mellan tamdjuret och dess ägare. I Hunden i kult och religion medverkar en rad forskare med intresse för den betydelse hunden haft i människans kulturhistoria. Boken har sammanställts av Jenny Berglund och Ingvar Svanberg, verksamma som lektorer vid Södertörns högskola.

As shown in different ways, and contrary to popular ideas, there seems to be little reason to believe that religious and civic identity formation through public education is becoming less parochial and more culturally open. Even where state borders are porous, where commerce, culture, and trade as well as associative, personal, and social life display stronger liminal traits, normative education remains surprisingly national. This situation is remarkable and goes against the grain of current notions of both accelerating globalisation and a European regional renaissance. The book also takes issue with the foundational tenet that liberal democracies are by definition uninvolved in matters concerning faith and belief. Instead, an implied conclusion is that secular liberal democracy is less than secular and liberal - at least in education, which is a major arena for political-cultural-ethical socialisation, as it aims to confer worldviews and frameworks of identity on young people who will eventually become full citizens and bearers/sharers of prevailing normative communities.

Islamic religious education (IRE) in Europe has become a subject of intense debate during the past decade. There is concern that states are doing too little or too much to shape the spiritual beliefs of private citizens. State response to the concern ranges from sponsoring religious education in public schools to forgoing it entirely and policies vary according to national political culture. In some countries public schools teach Islam to Muslims as a subject within a broader religious curriculum that gives parents the right to choose their children's religious education. In the other countries public schools teach Islam to all pupils as a subject with a close relation to the academic study of religions. There are also countries where public schools do not teach religion at all, although there is an opportunity to teach about Islam in school subjects such as art, history, or literature. IRE taught outside publicly funded institutions, is of course also taught as a confessional subject in private Muslim schools, mosques and by Muslim organisations. Often students who attend these classes also attend a publicly funded "main stream school". This volume brings together a number of researchers for the first time to explore the interconnections between Islamic educations and public schooling in Europe. The relation between Islamic education and public schooling is analysed within the publicly and privately funded sectors. How is publicly funded education organised, why is it organised in this way, what is the history and what are the controversial issues? What are the similarities and differences between privately run Islamic education and "main stream" schooling? What are the experiences of teachers, parents and pupils? The volume will be of interest to scholars of Islam in Europe, policy makers of education and integration and teachers of religious education.
