Delay Doppler Communications and Sensing: Principles, Advances and Applications of OTFS provides a comprehensive exploration of the principles and cutting-edge developments of delay Doppler (DD) communications and sensing with a specific focus on the advances and application of orthogonal time frequency space (OTFS). It highlights the fundamental theory for DD communications and sensing through the Zak transform, and discusses how this classic concept from quantum physics can reshape modern wireless technology. The important aspects of DD communications and sensing are introduced in detail, including transceiver design, performance analysis, and its application. In particular, this book reveals the intrinsic connections between DD domain wireless communication and sensing channels, unveiling the important interplay between communication and sensing functionalities in the DD domain. The book introduces the principles and design of communications and sensing based on the DD signal processing framework as well as delving into advanced aspects, such as DD domain MIMO and DD domain integrated sensing and communications (ISAC). By providing a comprehensive overview of both fundamental principles, cutting-edge research and practical applications, this book gives a deep understanding of the underlying concepts and techniques in Delay Doppler (DD) communications and sensing. With this book the reader will:Gain a comprehensive understanding of the Zak transform and DD domain wireless channelsUnderstand the concept of DD communications, including the popular variants of OTFSLearn implementation details of DD communications and sensingFollow state-of-the-art developments in DD communications and sensingGrasp the insights and physical interpretations of DD communications and sensingHave access to programming codes for OTFS and DD communications and sensingA comprehensive overview of both fundamental principles and cutting-edge research, giving a deep understanding of the underlying concepts and techniques in Delay Doppler (DD) communications and sensingIncludes practical content such as coding strategies, channel estimation techniques, and equalization methods, accompanied by tips and guidance for practical implementationExplores a wide range of applications, from radar sensing to DD Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) configurations, making it relevant for researchers, engineers, and practitioners in various domainsHighlights outstanding research challenges and future directions, stimulating further exploration, and inspiring readers to contribute to the advancement of DD communications and sensing

The capacity of wireless data communications is lagging behind demands due to unsatisfactory performance of the existing wireless networks, such as low data rates, low spectral efficiency and low quality of service.Space-time coding is an effective transmit diversity technique to combat fading in wireless communications. Space-time codes are a highly bandwidth-efficient approach to signalling within wireless communication that takes advantage of the spatial dimension by transmitting a number of data streams using multiple co-located antennas. There are various approaches to the coding structures, including space-time trellis coded modulation, space-time turbo codes and also layered architectures. The central issue in all these various coding structures is the exploitation of multipath effects in order to achieve very high spectral efficiencies. The spectral efficiencies of traditional wireless systems range between 1-5bps/sec/Hz but by using space-time techniques spectral efficiencies of 20-40bps/sec/Hz have been possible. Hence, space-time coding enables an increase in capacity by an order of magnitude. This is the main reason why space-time codes have been included in the standards for the third generation wireless communication systems and ultimately why Space-time Coding will be in great demand by individuals within industry and academia. The comprehensive understanding of space-time coding is essential in the implementation of 3G, and as the only title currently available, Space-Time Coding will be the standard text for Researchers, telecommunication engineers and network planners, academics and undergraduate/postgraduate students, telecommunications managers and consultants.

This book grew out of our research, industry consulting and con tinuing education courses. Turbo coding initially seemed to belong to a restricted research area, while now has become a part of the mainstream telecommu nication theory and practice. The turbo decoding principles have found widespread applications not only in error control, but in de tection, interference suppression and equalization. Intended for use by advanced students and professional engi neers, involved in coding and telecommunication research, the book includes both basic and advanced material. The chapters are se quenced so that the knowledge is acquired in a logical and progres sive way. The algorithm descriptions and analysis are supported by examples throughout the book. Performance evaluations of the presented algorithms are carried out both analytically and by sim ulations. Basic material included in the book has been taught to students and practicing professionals over the last four years in the form of senior undergraduate or graduate courses, lecture series and short continuing education courses.
