Hon har arbetat som barnbibliotekarie i över tjugofem år och är bosatt i Toronto. Sydney Smith är född på landsbygden i Nova Scotia (Kanada) och har tecknat från tidig ålder. Han har illustrerat många barnböcker, däribland den ordlösa bilderboken Sidewalk Flowers , efter idéer av JonArno Lawson, vilken belönades med flera utmärkelser.
