The study of liquids covers a wide range of scientific disciplines, primarily in physics and chemistry. As a result of this disparate activity the links between new developments in remote fields are seldom co-ordinated into a single conference. The objective of the present meeting was to gather together people with different forms of expertise. Previous ASI meetings on the liquid state have been held over an extended period and have occurred on a three-yearly basis. The first meeting in this series was on 'Structure and Dynamics of Liquids' in 1980 and was held on the island of Corsica. The next meeting on 'Molecular liquids: Dynamics and Interactions' was held in Florence in 1983 and was followed by 'Aqueous Solutions' at the Institut d'Etudes Scientifiques de Cargese in 1986. It therefore seemed a natural choice to select Cargese for the next meeting in 1989 and to choose a topic which emphasised a particular area of liquid state studies. Due to our own involvement in collaborative research we considered that 'Hydrogen-bonded liquids' would be an appropriate topic. One of its attractions, was that there was much new material coming from widely disparate investigations and it would be a convenient time to draw together the different strands. The particular interest in water was clearly central to this topic but it was thought desirable to set this development in the wider context of other systems in which hydrogen-bonding plays a significant role.

In its combination of an advanced teaching standpoint with an emphasis on new perspectives and recent advances in the study of liquids formed by simple molecules, "Molecular Liquids: New Perspectives in Physics and Chemistry" provides a clear, understandable guide through the complexities of the subject. A wide range of topics covered in the areas of intermolecular forces, statistical mechanics, the microscopic dynamics of simple liquids, thermodynamics of solutions, nonequilibrium molecular dynamics, molecular models for transport and relaxation in fluids, liquid simulations, statistical band shape theories, conformational studies, fast-exchange dynamics, and hydrogen bonding. The experimental techniques covered include: neutron scattering, X-ray diffraction, IR, Raman, NMR, quasielastic neutron scattering, and high-precision, time-resolved coherent Raman spectroscopy.

Digitalisation has had an overwhelming impact on the workplace in recent years, making it more associable, editable, interactive, programmable, traceable, communicable and distributable. But this change comes with substantial changes to ways of working. New technologies almost always translate into new work processes, work arrangements, collaborative engagements and thus disrupt the information environment and consolidate equilibria at work. This book aims to bring forward the role of workplace information literacy as a key condition for successful digitalisation or digital transformation in today’s workplace. Featuring contributions from leading scholars, it examines the multifaceted role of workplace information literacy in organisational operations and its role in the digitalisation process, taking into account the role and perspectives of employer and employee. The book includes lessons learned from investigating workplace information literacy across very different empirical domains (e.g. a nuclear power plant, an open-source software community, and a university among others). It outlines methodological and conceptual developments for anyone investigating information literacy across the modern workplace undergoing digitalisation, extending the debate on the impact of digitalisation on individuals and organisations. The book will guide researchers interested in the digital workplace by aggregating conceptual, methodological and processual knowledge on the impacts of digitalisation on the contemporary workplace from an information-centered perspective.

This work contains a selection of papers about a broad range of topics relating to CAD modelling and graphics. It also presents an overview of the research and application work done at different R&D institutions in Europe and USA. The papers are grouped into sections. First, issues in feature-based product development (such as representation of form features, consistency management and reasoning) are addressed from different perspectives. Then some design techniques are presented. The following sections deal with communication in design and analysis, input and interaction techniques, and visualization.

Graphics and Modelling are key technologies to support visualisation and product development tasks. Based on the recent developments in the areas of (scientific) visualisation, interaction techniques, distributed systems, and product design, in dustrial and applied research have improved the possibilities for further approaches and issues and for exchanging experiences. A workshop on Graphics and Model ling in Science & Technology was held in Coimbra, Portugal in June 1994, and the programme committee selected 19 papers for presentation. The workshop had a good international participation. Due to the extensive scientific contacts between Portuguese and German researchers, the workshop included the third Luso-German Computer Graphics Meeting. This book reflects the results of the workshop. The papers were updated after the workshop presentations to reflect the discussions during the meeting. Correspond ing to the different topics addresses in the workshop, the book is divided into the following six sections. CAD Models and Architectures Short overviews of the Reference Architecture for CAD and the Integration Con cept for CAD applications are given in this section. The integration ability of the international standard STEP is analysed, as well as STEP''s integration approaches for product data sharing and product data exchange.

This book contains the proceedings of a workshop held at the Institute Laue-Langevin in Grenoble in September 1988. Review articles and contributed papers survey recent theoretical and experimental developments on disordered materials and in particular on glasses. A large part of the book concerns the recently proposed mode-coupling approach to the behaviour of a viscous liquid around its glass transition, where the relevant dynamics extend over a broad range in time scales and the application of quite different experimental techniques becomes essential. Contributions report on experiments using dielectric relaxation, NMR or light scattering techniques, and especially neutron scattering techniques. One signature of disordered materials is the occurrence of an excess vibrational density of states at low frequencies. Some situations are presented where the density of states can be understood by taking into account the peculiarities of intra- and intermolecular motions. Another approach to the dynamics of disordered materials is the fracton picture, developed to describe the excitations of fractal objects. Several contributions discuss the dynamics of such fractals, studying mainly the vibrational density of states, and some discuss the application of the fracton concept to materials without a fractal structure like glasses.
