Structures which are conceived rationally have an order and logic which do not always fit into real world conditions of the irrational and the unpredictable in architecture. But what if structural ideas were explored as a condition in architecture which challenged the predictable? What if structure were not bound by its rational ethos but instead conceived in alternative approaches relevant to real-world irrationalities? And if the approaches lead to what is possible, then is structural eccentricity a norm or an anomaly in architecture? This book documents a series of design investigations that engage with conditions of shape, change and mutation, giving rise to design propositions dealing with eccentricity in structure. With illustrations and accompanying descriptions of the design process, this book is a useful reference for structural strategies in architecture.

Hey, everyone, it's Tico again! I missed you all. I'm so happy to be back. And now I have a whole new set of stories that I want to share with you. As usual, the stars of my stories are the animals of Ticoland! Yay, I love animals! You know that already. All sorts of animals from different places in the world live in Ticoland, like animals from the sky, the water, the ground, the snow, the mountains, and more. Even animals that many people don't see anymore can still be found in Ticoland. That's why I created this wonderful place. It's for animals to live freely, to grow and learn, to play and have fun. Anyway, if you read my first book, you'll recognize many of the characters for this one. They're back for lots more adventures. But there are a bunch of new characters also, and they're super excited for you read about them too. So check out all these stories. Share them with your family and friends. And see if you can learn a lesson from each one too. Most importantly, have fun!Note: The author will donate a portion of the proceeds to selected children's charities.

This book explores aspects of the historical and theoretical basis for temporary and transportable environments and provides an insight into the wide range of functions that they are used for today, the varied forms they take and the concerns and ideas for their future development. Themes in the book range from wide-ranging topical issues like the ecological implications of building to more focused investigations such as shelter after disaster. The book will be of interest to both students and practising architects, engineers and those involved in the creation of the built environment. It will also be of value to those involved in areas of product design, design history, building component manufacture and urban design.

Hi, friends, my name is Tico, and I'm seven years old. I want to tell you about a wonderful place called Ticoland. I created this land, so I get to name it, and I named it after myself. Pretty cool, right? Hey, do you love animals? I sure do. I think they are awesome-so cute and smart and fun. Well, guess what. Ticoland is filled with all sorts of animals! Animals from the jungle, the mountains, the farm, the water, the sky, the plains, and the snow can be found in Ticoland-even cute little bugs. They all have names, and I came up with some really cool stories about them. I tell about their activities, adventures, their fun and games. I hope you enjoy reading these stories. Share them with your friends and family too. Oh, and see if you can find the moral of each story. That means try to learn something important from each one. And of course, have fun! Jordan is a loving, intelligent, and energetic boy who, at a very young age, was diagnosed with autism. As a result, he is significantly limited in his communication skills, social development, and academic progress. He exhibits some behavioral issues and maladaptive habits. Additionally, Jordan sometimes has to contend with those who are either not receptive to or not well-informed about special needs individuals. Despite his condition, Jordan's family loves him unceasingly. Together, they persevere through the challenges that accompany the autism and do all they can to obtain the best services and benefits available for Jordan. As time goes by and the family adjusts to their unique struggles, they are hit with another major blow. Just prior to reaching adolescence, Jordan is diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. All of a sudden, Jordan's health issues are more than just social and developmental; they are now also physical. Yet amidst the devastating news and the extremely difficult process overall, the family continues to put their full trust in God. Half My Life: The Testimony of a Father and His Special Needs Child began as just a poem composed by Jordan's father. Years later, it grew into this biographical journal. Much of it was not planned out initially but written on the spot as thoughts and ideas came to the mind of the author and as memories and emotions filled his heart. It chronicles the adventures and experience, the highlights and the struggles, and the surprises and setbacks as told from the perspective of one of Jordan's biggest fans-his dad. The author will donate a portion of the proceeds to charities dedicated to autism, diabetes, and special kids in general. Visit "e;Half my Life"e; on Facebook

This book seeks to discover the architectural potential of biological structures as they can be found in nature. The structures that give biological forms strength, movement, firmness, and flexibility are studied, illustrated, and used as an inspiration for a huge number of design experiments of which the thinking, working, and final prototyping process are shown.

The Finance module provides a significant underpinning to the Chartered Fintech Professional (CFtP) qualification. While the topics are familiar to professionals who are traditionally trained in Finance, these topics are required to appreciate the financial problems that technology can help solve. Without a clear appreciation of finance concepts and practice, any professional will have difficulties solving such problems the traditional way, let alone incorporating recent technological breakthroughs. In this module, we provide the basic concepts and knowledge that a fintech professional needs. This book covers the main concepts and theories in finance which include economics, financial statement analysis, financial management, and investment management. Finance for Fintech Professionals is a companion volume to the book on technology that covers fundamental concepts on data, artificial intelligence, and network. Together, these two books form the foundation for a good understanding of finance and fintech applications which will be covered in subsequent volumes.

As technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, cloud computing, and blockchain have been applied to various areas in finance, there is an increasing demand for finance professionals with the skills and knowledge related to fintech. Knowledge of the technologies involved and finance concepts is crucial for the finance professional to understand the architecture of technologies as well as how they can be applied to solve various aspects of finance. This book covers the main concepts and theories of the technologies in fintech which consist of big data, data science, artificial intelligence, data structure and algorithm, computer network, network security, and Python programming. This book presents a collection of proposed offshore and nearshore settlements in response to the emerging consequences of climate change. These settlements are counterpoints to megacities with unsustainable ecological footprints. The continuing depletion of natural resources has resulted in displaced communities, prompting the following research questions: What if we floated on sea instead of inefficiently consuming land? Could we use wave energy instead of nuclear energy? How can we replenish food supply and regenerate marine eco-diversity? How would our lives be shaped by new offshore settlements? What would we use as structures for shelter, farming, scaffolding and recreation? Floating cities emerged in the 1960s with Buckminster Fuller’s Triton City and Kenzo Tange’s Tokyo Bay Plan, and current manifestations include Vincent Callebaut’s Lilypad, the Seasteading Institute and the mile-long Freedom Ship housing 50,000 people.  As an alternative to these examples, the book proposes the repurposing of three types of marine vessel: jack-up platforms, semi-submersibles and superbarges as sustainable, habitable structures to accommodate 20% of the projected 8.1 billion global population in 2025. The spatially conceived   floating settlements include food and energy supplies for housing, recreation, education at sea, post-disaster health care and resettlement for nearshore deployment.
