Das Lehrbuch bietet ein didaktisches Drei-Stufen-Modell, um urheberrechtliche Kenntnisse zu erwerben bzw. zu vertiefen. Zunächst werden auf der Grundlage theoretischer und praktischer Fragestellungen Probleme aufgezeigt. Danach erfolgt eine rechtspolitische und dogmatische Bewertung der im Lehrbuch dargestellten Fälle. Schließlich werden Lösungsmöglichkeiten unter Berücksichtigung der Auffassungen in der Rechtsprechung und in der Literatur angeboten.Die Neuauflage berücksichtigt die Reform des Urheberrechts (Korb III) und die aktuelle Rechtsprechung und Literatur. Die Digitalisierung und das Internet bilden im Lehrbuch einen wesentlichen Schwerpunkt. Neben den Problemen der gebrauchten Software und den unbekannten Nutzungsarten spielt das Urhebervertragsrecht eine wichtige Rolle. Dabei werden die Entscheidungen des BVerfG und des EuGH einbezogen.
