This book aims to broaden and deepen psychotherapeutic understanding and techniques in the practice of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). A major “third wave” evolution of cognitive behavior therapy, DBT has been widely researched for its efficacy in treating suicidal and self-injurious individuals across the lifespan. Over its 30+ years since its inception, DBT has been evaluated across many additional populations, treating settings, and in social-emotional curricula, developing a robust evidence-base. This volume includes a collection of emerging topics or often overlooked areas of DBT in more depth, providing enhanced guidance in the effective application of this often nuanced and complex therapy. It covers a range of populations that have not yet been sufficiently explored in the DBT literature, including neurodiversity, LGBTQ+ individuals, and racial minorities. It also explores other modes and modalities of treatment and advanced techniques, including DBT with couples, DBT through creative arts therapies, and DBT in stages 3 and 4. This volume will take DBT therapists a step further in their clinical work by enhancing their evidence-based practice, thereby increasing therapist self-efficacy and treatment effectiveness.
