The most comprehensive publication to date on Sarah Cain’s exuberant paintings and installationsPublished with Tang Museum.Los Angeles-based painter Sarah Cain (born 1979) works on canvases of all sizes, often modifying them by cutting and braiding, painting on all sides and installing the canvas with the back of the painting facing the viewer. She also paints on other surfaces, including interior and exterior walls, floors, furniture and dollar bills.Cain's process often involves altering and disfiguring a composition until the original image is no longer recognizable. Her process of creation and destruction frequently includes found objects and is steeped in the history of painting and feminist art practices. Cain's work is a challenge to the patriarchal hierarchies of painting. "Almost everything about Cain's paintings—their speed, their brashness, their noodling compositions, their splashes and spray-painted scribbles, their tacky accouterments, their sense of absurdity—seems to undermine the gravitas that large-scale painting traditionally projects," wrote Jonathan Griffin, in the New York Times.Sarah Cain: Enter the Center features new writings and previously unpublished photographs and documentation of dozens of artworks with a focus on the last decade of Cain's exuberant and unique paintings and installations.

Based on an exhibition organized by Joachim Pissarro and curator of contemporary art at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, Lauren Haynes, Crystals in Art: Ancient to Today explores the complex and varied connections between crystal and art throughout the world. Included are both ancient artifacts-such as engraved gems, figurines, and vases-and works from contemporary artists around the world that explore the power of crystal in art by drawing on its form, properties, and mysterious qualities. Featuring more than sixty-five works from ancient Egypt and Greece, through to Rome, China, India, Japan, the Middle East, the Americas, and beyond, this book invites readers to discover how the power of crystal transcends the boundaries of time and space.Taken together, all of these objects illustrate how crystal has bridged the gap between things we can see and things we can't: science and art, fact and faith, medicine and magic-the visible and the invisible.Published in collaboration with Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art and University of Arkansas School of Art.

The first book to celebrate the miniature-scale model The Panorama of the City of New York.An awe-inspiring metropolis in miniature, The Panorama of the City of New York has achieved cult-like status with New Yorkers and serves as a locus of memory for visitors from around the globe. This is the first book to fully celebrate The Panorama, featuring accessible text and photographs of its conception, creation, and enjoyment. The Panorama was one of the most successful attractions at the 1964–65 World’s Fair, with millions enjoying what was billed as an indoor helicopter tour of New York. Comprising an area of 9,335 square feet and built to a scale of 1:1200 (where one inch equals 100 feet), the original 1964 mini city was updated multiple times before its last renovation in 1992. Within the 320 square miles of New York City represented on The Panorama, you can find 850,000 buildings, more than 100 bridges, and almost all of the city’s parks and streets. Now part of the permanent exhibition at the Queens Museum, the Panorama brings the magic of New York to life to thousands of visitors each year.
