Lavinia Byrne believes that the Roman Catholic Church's teaching and pastoral practice is producing vocations to priesthood among women. This book looks forward to the day when Catholic women will be ordained, and addresses questions such as: when and how this might take place; who women are for and against; how women are organized; what the present-day Church thinking is on the subject; whether nuns are uncovering a call to ordination; and whether the ordination of women is a source of division or a source of healing.

The Bible is a book of stories par excellence and is wholly realistic about human nature. Hero, Lover, Daughter, Queen retells ten timeless stories of biblical characters who grappled with the reality of the human condition and reached beyond themselves for understanding from within the messy confines of lives like ours. · Solomon – how to create your legacy; · The lover in the Song of Songs - what makes you beautiful? · Goliath – what makes you strong? · The paralytic man – where to find true friendship; · Jezebel – what it’s like to be thrown to the dogs; and more. Contemporary issues such as racism, the environment, mental health and wellbeing come under the spotlight in this imaginative book. In these striking stories we are offered a mirror in which to see ourselves more clearly, find wisdom for our own times, make better sense of our own experiences and insights for navigating our way through today’s complex world.

A Lent course that will help readers find spiritual solace in their lives and a sense of belonging in various aspects of their lives A Lent course that will help readers find spiritual solace in their lives and a sense of belonging in various aspects of their livesSuitable for both individual and group study at Lent Where do you feel most at home?Where do you belong? How can it help me to live in strength and with hope?A Place of Belonging connects the spiritual focus of Lent with a physical sense of place, as described at various points in the Bible. Lavinia Byrne helps us to consider these places, to slow down and imagine ourselves inhabiting them, to reflect and draw wisdom that may inform how we respond to the world around us today.Over nine chapters each concluding with a prayer, reflective questions and action points we journey to biblical gardens, mountain-tops, city walls and the inside of the whale, to the side of a well and the fiery furnace, to sea, and to space and the heavens above. Not all of these places are necessarily where we would want to dwell, but as humans some of our most important growth comes to us in the dark as well as the light.
