This book examines China and Australia’s economic and security relations against the background of China’s increasing economic and political role. Utilizing the theory of complex interdependence, the authors consider whether greater interdependence between Beijing and Canberra augments closer economic cooperation and trade or prompts political leverage and a security challenge. Exploring China-Australia relations from the mainstream Chinese perspective this book will be of interest to scholars and students of international relations, Chinese studies, global political economy, governmental and intergovernmental organizations.

Tillfälligt slut
Grid technology offers the potential for providing secure access to remote services, thereby promoting scientific collaborations in an unprecedented scale. Grid Resource Management: Toward Virtual and Services Compliant Grid Computing presents a comprehensive account of the architectural issues of grid technology, such as security, data management, logging, and aggregation of services, as well as related technologies. After covering grid usages, grid systems, and the evolution of grid computing, the book discusses operational issues associated with web services and service-oriented architecture. It also explores technical and business topics relevant to data management, the development and characteristics of P2P systems, and a grid-enabled virtual file system (GRAVY) that integrates underlying heterogeneous file systems into a unified location-transparent file system of the grid. The book covers scheduling algorithms, strategies, problems, and architectures as well as workflow management systems and semantic technologies. In addition, the authors describe how to deploy scientific applications into a grid environment. They also explain grid engineering and grid service programming.Examining both data and execution management in grid computing, this book chronicles the current trend of grid developments toward a more service-oriented approach that exposes grid protocols using web services standards.

Del 5 - Belt and Road Initiative

The rise of China is one of the most important events in international relations, which has altered, and will most likely continue to change the global geoeconomic and geo-political landscape. The book examines China’s “Belt and Road” initiative (BRI) in the Pacific Island countries as well as their partnerships in the context of China’s rise and China-America geopolitical competition. The book argues that the BRI in the South Pacific region is not merely an economic initiative, but one with a combination of economic, political and strategic objectives and consequences. The BRI in the region is, first and foremost, aimed to sustain China’s economic growth by gaining entry to the region’s resources and particularly the region’s marine resources, and by enhancing economic and infrastructural collaboration with its partners in the region. Sustained economic growth has long been identified by Deng Xiaoping as the basis underpinning China’s “overall” (“hard” and “soft”) power and China’s rise. The BRI is secondly aimed to intensify China’s partnership with the Pacific Island Countries (PICs) by changing the geoeconomic and geopolitical landscape through the implementation of BRI. China wishes to display to its partners in the region that its peaceful rise shall not be misconstrued as a threat, but an opportunity for economic prosperity both for China and for its economic partners across the world. The book concludes that China is increasingly able to reap economic and geopolitical interest in the South Pacific by intensifying “connectivity” and “exchanges of people” between China and the PICs through the BRI.

This book argues that China’s quest for a strategic partnership with Russia reveals the country’s desire to create a geopolitical environment in favour of their country’s re-emergence as a great power at the systemic (global) level. The partnership with its “no-limit” is expected to help China counterbalance its perceived US containment and reshape the US-dominated world order. By intensifying Sino-Russian economic and energy cooperation and trade in the framework of the partnership, China attempts to gain entry to Russia’s markets and particularly its energy resources to sustain its economic growth that is viewed by Deng Xiaoping as the basis underlying China’s “hard” power, and particularly its military capabilities. By intensifying their military collaboration, China seeks to gain entry to Russia’s military weaponry and technology for the modernization of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and work together with Russia to contain their perceived US unilateralism, hegemonism and interventionism. The Chinese foreign policy elites increasingly view US unilateralism and hegemonism as detrimental to China’s “core interests” (e.g., its territorial integrity and national rejuvenation). This sheds light on why the Chinese foreign policy elites conceive the China-Russia partnership as ‘vital’ for China’s peaceful development (commonly known as peaceful rise overseas) and the ‘ballast stone for global peace and strategic stability’. This book will be of interest to sinologists and scholars of China's foreign policy.
