The third edition of the Gross Motor Function Measure (GMFM-66 & GMFM-88) User’s Manual has retained the information contained in the original 2002 and 2013 publications which included the conceptual background to the development of the GMFM, and the administration and scoring guidelines for people to be able to administer this clinical and research assessment tool appropriately. This includes information on the development and validation of two abbreviated methods of estimating GMFM-66 scores using the GMFM-66- Item sets (GMFM-66- IS) and the GMFM-66- B&C (Basal & Ceiling) and a chapter providing a longitudinal case illustration of how the measure and the short forms of the GMFM can be applied and interpreted in clinical practice. The new edition includes information and an Appendix on the updated version of the Gross Motor Ability Estimator scoring program (GMAE-3), which is available through the GMFM App+ (see the CanChild website at (https://www.canchild.ca/en/shop/38-the-gross-motor-function-measure-app).Changes from previous edition Includes information and an Appendix on the updated version of the Gross Motor Ability Estimator scoring program (GMAE-3), which is available through the GMFM App+ (see the CanChild website at www.canchild.ca).Chapter 8 which describes the ongoing work to continually update the GMFM tools has a section that addresses challenges that researchers and clinicians have had in using the tools and suggestions to use the measure appropriately.Updates on the Challenge module and the Quality FM, translations, and the use of the GMFM in populations other than cerebral palsy and Down Syndrome have been included.New Appendix introducing the Gross Motor Family Report (GM-FR)Updates to chapter 8 including new content covering additional translations of GMFM, and updates to development work of GMFM and applications in other childhood diseases.

The third edition of the Gross Motor Function Measure (GMFM-66 & GMFM-88) User's Manual has retained the information contained in the original 2002 and 2013 publications which included the conceptual background to the development of the GMFM, and the administration and scoring guidelines for people to be able to administer this clinical and research assessment tool appropriately. Information is presented on the development and validation of two abbreviated methods of estimating GMFM-66 scores using the GMFM-66-Item sets (GMFM-66-IS) and the GMFM-66-B&C (Basal & Ceiling), and updates are included on the Challenge module and the Quality FM, translations, and the use of the GMFM in populations other than cerebral palsy and Down syndrome. The new edition includes information and an Appendix on the updated version of the Gross Motor Ability Estimator scoring program (GMAE-3), which is available through the GMFM App+. Readership The GMFM User's Manual, is used primarily by physical therapists and other health professionals who work with children, youth and adults with cerebral palsy. The tool has both wide clinical applicability as a means of assessing and describing current gross motor function in this population, and as a validated method of evaluating change in function over time. It serves the needs of clinical and health services researchers as an outcome measure to assess the impact of any of a host of interventions that are proposed as methods of enhancing or tacking gross motor function in this population.

The Gross Motor Function Measure (GMFM) has become the best evaluative measure of motor function designed for quantifying change in the gross motor abilities of children with cerebral palsy. The new version of the scoring programme has now been released, and includes two abbreviated methods of estimating GMFM-66 scores using the GMFM-66-Item sets and the GMFM-66-Basal & Ceiling. The measure is very widely used internationally, and is now the standard outcome assessment tool. This new edition builds on the wide success of the first edition and: Is now based on an updated version of the GMFM scoring program (GMAE-2)Includes an update on the psychometric properties of the GMFM-88 and GMFM-66Covers development and validation of two abbreviated methods of estimating GMFM-66 scores using the GMFM-66 Item sets (GMFM-66-IS) and the GMFM-66-B&C (Basal and Ceiling)Includes a new longitudinal case illustration of the development, application and interpretation of the measurePresents a forward look to an upward extension of the GMFM to assess skill development in highly functional young people with cerebral palsyPresents a forward look to ?Quality Function Measure? to quantify changes in quality of gross motor functionReadership Physical Therapists and other health professionals working with children, youth and adults with cerebral palsyClinical and health services researchers as an outcome measure to assess the impact of numerous interventions that are proposed as methods of enhancing gross motor function in this populationAny clinician who is assessing and describing current gross motor function and evaluating its change over timeIt serves the needs of clinical and health services researchers as an outcome measure to assess the impact of any of a host of interventions that are proposed as methods of enhancing gross motor function in this population.
