Since 2015, Mexican architect Francisco Pardo has run his own practice in fast-growing and fast changing Mexico City. His projects have reflected how Mexico is transforming the idea of the Latin American city: part ancient, part colonial, part futuristic. His Havre 69 project, created with his partner from architecture firm at103, Julio Amezcua, repurposes a 100-year-old residence for upper-middle-class families into offices, 12 separate residences, a bakery and a restaurant. On the one hand, Pardo exposes large sections of brick and maintains the original tile, while on the other, he builds modernist concrete and glass boxes that frame the original facade. Likewise, the architect's Milan44 project takes an auto-parts store in the warehouse in the Roma neighborhood of Mexico City and creates a vertical urban market that brings the storefront street level onto each level of the structure. The architecture of Francisco Pardo reflects a fresh direction in the vast project of building Latin America into the future.

The different ways of understanding the landscape and the art of gardens by a well-known landscape architect. In the last two decades a new generation of landscape architects has definitively emerged together with a new and more aware clientele that is beginning to see the design of open spaces as an extraordinary environmental and civic resource. “Designing” the landscape in order to transform and develop the environment surrounding us: this is how the architect and landscape designer Patrizia Pozzi sees her work. Illustrated with hundreds of photographs, drawings and plans, this publication presents her recent projects divided into four sections: Energy landscape (eco-sustainability and bio-compatibility), Inhabiting nature (landscape as a source of inspiration and integration), New trends (new dynamics in approaching public space and daily life) and Nursery (sustainability and integration between architecture and open spaces), and leads the reader through an endless series of beautiful landscapes designed with care and natural understanding. What emerges is the philosophy of a person who wants to “get her hands dirty” with a project, developing it in meticulous detail and lending value to the transformation of contemporary landscape from its most poetic aspect, focussing on sustainability and the use of innovative materials. With all its different scales and variations, the landscape is conceived and constructed as an active resource for the future, an authentic and extremely powerful source of renewal for a reality urgently in need of quality and beauty in every place we inhabit.

A photographic and textual documentation of David Chipperfield’s long-awaited restoration of St Mark’s SquareThis volume follows the long-anticipated restoration work on the Procuratie Vecchie in St Mark’s Square in Venice, as overseen by David Chipperfield Architects. Thousands of people walk past the landmark each year, oblivious to what resides within. In April 2022, the building opened for the first time in 500 years, housing humanitarian organizations such as the Human Safety Net foundation.St Mark’s Square is often regarded as Venice’s central community complex; Venice, in turn, is often regarded across the globe as an architectural mecca. Accordingly, the major restoration has drawn a number of critical reflections by both Italian and international thinkers. Venice Lab gathers these essays from scholars and artists, as well as interviews with the architects involved in the restoration, conveying the project’s pluralistic vision for the lagoon city.
