Del 38 - Multilingual Education
Content and Language Integrated Learning in Monolingual Settings
New Insights from the Spanish Context
Inbunden, Engelska, 2021
1 445 kr
Skickas inom 10-15 vardagar
This book offers new empirical insights into the current state of Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) characterisation (through an innovative proposal to link CLIL to English as a Lingua Franca), implementation (via observation protocols and SWOT analyses), and research (by examining the effects of CLIL on the L1, foreign language, key competences, and content subjects taught through English). The book provides a state of the art of the CLIL arena, identifies the chief challenges that need to be addressed and signposts possible ways of overcoming these in order to continue advancing smoothly into the next decade of CLIL development. This book will be of interest to researchers, policy-makers, educational authorities, and practitioners as it will assist them in making informed decisions about how to characterise, implement, and investigate CLIL in the bi- and plurilingual programs that are more frequently introduced in monolingual contexts.

Communicative Classroom Language for Bilingual Education
Teaching «Real English» for CLIL
Häftad, Engelska, 2018

Skickas inom 5-8 vardagar
This book focuses on communicative classroom language for bilingual education and aims to equip language and content teachers with real, updated English expressions of direct relevance in CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) contexts. To this end, it presents a theoretical backdrop with the rationale underpinning the proposal and three sets of tried-and-tested original activities, classified according to type of lexical chunk, function, and level (Infant, Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary Education). Students are encouraged to move from more controlled and basic stages of identification of these types of communicative chunks towards a freer type of production, through a wide variety of originally designed and piloted activities based on multimodal texts (gap-filling, matching, tic-tac-toe, sentence completion, error correction, T/F, multiple choice, ordering, odd-one-out). A full glossary is also provided with 330 useful expressions, as well as an answer key and printable posters and cut-outs which are directly applicable in the CLIL classroom.
Del 12 - Foreign Language Teaching in Europe
Digital Competence Development in Higher Education
An International Perspective

This book seeks to foster the successful incorporation of digital competence in Bologna-adapted language degrees. To this end, it pools the insights of a set of international practitioners and investigators who report on classroom- and research-based experiences which have integrated ICT (information and communication technology) for specific and generic competence development within the Higher Education language context. Their research has evinced that digital competence can act as a catalyst for the development of other linguistic and generic competencies of crucial relevance in Higher Education language degrees, as well as the multiple literacies involved not only in digital and linguistic skills, but also cooperative learning, critical thinking and literary aspects. Thus, the contributions included in this volume seem to make a compelling case for the incorporation of ICT into the new language learning scenario provided by the implementation of the European Credit Transfer System.

Spanning the divide between the theory and praxis of competency-based teaching in tertiary language education, this volume contains invaluable practical guidance for the post-secondary sector on how to approach, teach, and assess competencies in Bologna-adapted systems of study. It presents the latest results of prominent European research projects, programs of pedagogical innovation, and thematically linked academic networks. Responding to a profound need for a volume addressing the practical aspects of the newly designed language degrees now being rolled out across Europe, this essential contribution pools the insights of a prestigious set of scholars, practitioners, and policy makers from diverse parts of Europe and the US. It will inform crucial decisions about instituting and evaluating competencies in a new generation of language studies programmes.
