The water thief finds Semeleand demands her help. The Ladron is a dark and mysterious creature, which lives in the sea and is feared by the people of the islands. The islands people have many enemies to fear, especially the slave traders and pirates. Dwane search for Semele after he was saved by the cook once again, he commits to mutiny and kills a pirate captain to claim his ship and men. The ship and men he will need to fight of George, Semeles brother and Argos, the man she loves.

The book is about the children of five families who are driven from their homes. They go on a journey through the Dark Forest to save their lives. They encounter old family friends, who take them in and teach them to be soldiers and look after themselves so that one day they could return to take back what is theirs by right and blood. Together these children fight and survive. It is also a life journey to them.
