In 2011, Zurich-based architect Fawad Kazi submitted the winning proposal for the rebuilding and extension of a hospital complex in the Swiss city of St Gallen. Over a period of ten years, a number of existing structures will undergo vast rebuilding and new ones will be added, transforming a park with individual buildings into a single continuous complex.This new, eventually five-part monograph, documents this project in full detail. It highlights the significance of St Gallen's urban design as well as the specific demands on architectural design and construction and on the hospital's operations. Volume I features the project's genesis and the initial new building, a pavilion structure housing a restaurant and, in the basement, an electrical substation.Text in English and German.

In 2011, Zurich-based architect Fawad Kazi, together with the KSSG-OKS planning consortium, won the competition for the rebuilding and extension of St Gallen’s cantonal hospital (KSSG) and the new regional children’s hospital for eastern Switzerland (OKS). By 2028, this huge undertaking will have transformed the whole area they are built in. This building monograph, laid out in five elegant volumes, documents in much detail the ambitious project, which is a significant trailblazer in the area of hospital design and urban development.This second volume is devoted to KSSG’s Haus 10, situated at the northern end of the site. Connected to the hospital’s main building by means of an ingenious passage, it serves to treat walk-in patients. Its flexible structure allows adaptions to suit also future needs of KSSG. Developed by Zurich-based firm Fawad Kazi Architekt in collaboration with the KSSG–OKS planning consortium, the vast undertaking will completely transform the site into a large, coherent building complex by 2029.This third volume of the eventually five-part monograph on this major and hugely demanding urban development project is dedicated to Haus 07A, the largest of the new buildings, which gives the entire complex a new urban face. A high-rise that mainly hosts the hospital’s wards is founded on a three-story elongated base with a spacious public roof terrace and including also the main entrance to the entire hospital complex.Text in English and German.

Lehm und Holz im Gewerbebau sind heute die Ausnahme. Aber warum? Denn gerade hier versprechen diese ökologischen Baustoffe viele Vorteile. Die in dieser Publikation vorgestellten Beispiele haben eines gemeinsam: Sie generieren durch das jeweils eingesetzte Material einen enormen Mehrwert. Mal stehen Flexibilität und Vorfertigung im Vordergrund, mal das Raumklima bzw. Behaglichkeitsfaktoren, mal die Beständigkeit, die Nutzerzufriedenheit, die CO2-Bilanz, die Recyclingfähigkeit – und manchmal alles zusammen. Die beiden Lehrstühle von Prof. Thomas Auer und Prof. Hermann Kaufmann von der TU München haben gemeinsam verschiedene Projektbeispiele untersucht und den Einsatz "ungewohnter" Materialwahl für Gewerbebauten hinterfragt.
