En filosofisk klassiker i nyöversättning
Jag och Du är en religionsfilosofisk milstolpe, boken utkom första gången 1923. Här formuleras grunderna i Bubers relationistiska filosofi: människans värld har två grundläggande dimensioner, Jag-Du-relationen och Jag-Det-relationen. Det äkta mötet och samtalet uppstår i Jag-Du-relationen.
Dag Hammarskjöld lärde känna Martin Buber som föreslog att Hammarskjöld skulle översätta Jag och Du, Bubers huvudverk. Vid olycksplatsen i Ndola 1961 hittades vid Hammarskjölds döda kropp de sidor som han hunnit översätta på sin sista resa.
1962 utkom boken på svenska för första gången, Margit och Curt Norell färdigställde översättningen som Hammarskjöld hade påbörjat.
Martin Buber (1878-1965) föddes i Wien i en judisk familj och var professor i religionsvetenskap och socialfilosofi i Tyskland och sedan i Israel. Andreas Ekvall har nyöversatt Jag och Du.

He resigned in 1933, after Hitler came to power, and immigrated to Israel where he taught at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.
