Bei der Kulturkonzeption steht ein offenes, eher qualitatives Vorgehen im Vordergrund, das insbesondere die ‚weichen’ Parameter der Kulturarbeit integriert und so das bisher bekannte schematisierenden Vorgehen der Kulturentwicklungsplanung erweitert.

Zwar liegen viele Studien zu den Besuchern von Kultureinrichtungen vor, die Selten- oder Nichtbesucher sind jedoch weitgehend unerforscht. Sie aber bilden die Mehrheit der Bevölkerung. Ihre Motivation zum Nichtbesuch steht daher im Mittelpunkt. Der Band gibt einen fundierten Überblick zum internationalen Stand der Nichtbesucherforschung. Darauf aufbauend werden umfangreiche quantitative und qualitative Analysen zu Gründen des Nicht-Besuches vorgenommen. Es folgt eine empirisch begründete, praxisorientierte Theorie zur Besuchergewinnung. Die Autoren legen damit die erste umfangreiche Arbeit zur Nichtbesucherforschung in Deutschland vor.

Die jährlich in zwei Heften erscheinende, referierte »Zeitschrift für Kulturmanagement« initiiert und fördert eine wissenschaftliche Auseinandersetzung mit Kulturmanagement im Hinblick auf eine methodologische und theoretische Fundierung des Faches. Das international orientierte Periodikum nimmt nicht nur ökonomische Fragestellungen, sondern ebenso sehr die historischen, politischen, sozialen und wirtschaftlichen Bedingungen und Verflechtungen im Bereich Kultur in den Blick. The Journal of Cultural Management and Cultural Policy offers international perspectives on a wide range of issues in cultural management and cultural policy research and practice. This issue looks at resiliency in cultural management and policy from a variety of perspectives. Resiliency (or its exact synonym, resilience) refers to the ability to withstand difficulty, or to bounce back from chaos or trauma. In the cultural sector, the term often refers to both the resiliency of artists and other cultural workers to work and create despite the many pressures against them. It also encompasses the belief that the presence of art in human society makes both society and individuals more resilient.
