This book constitutes the strictly refereed post-workshop proceedings of the First International Workshop on Information Security, ISW'98, held in Tatsunokuchi, Ishikawa, Japan, in September 1997. The volume presents six invited surveys together with 25 thoroughly revised full papers selected from 39 submissions. Among the topics covered are public-key cryptosystems, cryptoanalysis, digital signatures, hardware/software implementation, key management, key sharing, security management, electronic commerce, and quantum cryptology.

The 1999 International Information Security Workshop, ISW'99, was held on Monash University's Malaysia Campus, which is about 20km to the south west of downtown Kuala Lumpur, November 6-7, 1999. ISW'99soughtadi erentgoalfromitspredecessor,ISW'97,heldinIshikawa, Japan, whose proceedings were published as Volume 1396 of Springer Verlag's LNCS series. The focus of ISW'99 wason the following emerging areasof imp- tance in information security: multimedia watermarking, electronic cash, secure software components and mobile agents, and protection of software. Theprogramcommitteereceived38fullsubmissionsfrom12countriesand- gions: Australia, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Spain, Taiwan, and USA, and selected 23 of them for presentation. Among the 23 presentations, 19 were regular talks and the remaining 4 were short talks. Each submission was reviewed by at least two expert referees. We are grateful to the members of the program committee for reviewing and selecting papers in a very short period of time. Their comments helped the authors improve the n al version of their papers.Our thanks also go to Patrick McDaniel, Masaji Kawahara, and Yasuhiro Ohtaki who assisted in reviewing papers. In addition, we would like to thank all the authors, including those whose submissions were not accepted, for their contribution to the success of this workshop. The 10th Information Security Conference (ISC 2007) was held in Valpara´ ?so, Chile, October 9–12, 2007. ISC is an annual international conference covering research in theory and applications of information security, aiming to attract high quality papers in all of its technical aspects. ISC was ?rst initiated as a workshop (ISW) in Japan in 1997, ISW 1999 was held in Malaysia and ISW 2000 in Australia. The name was changed to the current one when the conf- ence was held in Spain in 2001 (ISC 2001). The latest conferences were held in Brazil (ISC 2002), the UK (ISC 2003), the USA (ISC 2004), Singapore (ISC 2005),and Greece (ISC 2006). This year the event wassponsored by the Univ- sidad T´ ecnica Federico Santa Mar´ ?a (Valpara´ ?so, Chile), the Support Center for AdvancedTelecommunicationsTechnologyResearch,Foundation,SCAT(Tokyo, Japan), Microsoft Corporation, and Yahoo! Research. Re?ectingtheconference’sbroadscope,thisyear’smainProgramCommittee consisted of a relatively large number (49) of experts. Additionally, given the timely topic of cryptanalysis and design of hash functions and the NIST hash competition, the conference also featured a special Hash Subcommittee, chaired by Arjen Lenstra (EPFL and Bell Labs), as well as a panel on hashing, chaired by Bill Burr (NIST). The conference received 116 submissions, 29 of which were selected by the committee members for presentation at the conference, based on quality, originality and relevance. Each paper was anonymously reviewed by at least three committee members.

The Fourth International Workshop on Security (IWSEC 2009) was held at Toyama International Conference Center, Toyama, Japan, October 28–30, 2009. The workshop was co-organized by CSEC, a special interest group on computer security of the IPSJ (Information Processing Society of Japan) and ISEC, a technical group on information security of IEICE (The Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers). The excellent Local Organizing Committee was led by the IWSEC 2009 General Co-chairs, Kazuo Takaragi and Hiroaki Kikuchi. IWSEC2009received46papersubmissionsfromallovertheworld.Wewould like to thank all the authors who submitted papers. Eachpaper was reviewedby at least three reviewers. In addition to the Program Committee members, many externalreviewersjoinedthereviewprocessintheirparticularareasofexpertise. We were fortunate to have this energetic team of experts, and are grateful to all of them for their hard work. The hard work includes very active discussion; the discussion phase was almost as long as the initial individual reviewing. The review and discussion were supported by a very nice Web-based system, iChair. We thank its developers. Following the review phases, 13 papers were accepted for publication in this volume of Advances in Information and Computer Security. Together with the contributed papers, the workshop featured an invited talk and a hash function panel both of which were respectively given and chaired by eminent researcher, Bart Preneel (Katholieke Universiteit Leuven).
