In 1930 the Clarendon Press published a Catalogue of the Persian, Turkish, Hindustani, and Pushtu MSS in the Bodleian Library. Part 2 of this catalogue included all Turkish MSS acquired before 1900, compiled by H. Ethé (out of print since 1958). A supplementary catalogue has now been compiled by Professor Günay Kut, Kemal Ataturk Visiting Fellow in the Faculty of Oriental Studies, University of Oxford 1989-90, which contains all Turkish MSS acquired by the Bodleian Library since 1900. Both the supplementary catalogue (approximately 356 entries) and a reprint of the original catalogue (approximately 280 entries) are issued as one volume, with an introduction by Professor Kut, an explanation of the numbering to be used, and a romanization table. The volume will contain fully cross-referenced name and title indexes covering Ethé as well as the supplementary catalogue. The entries are classified under subjects such as the Koran, Sufism, Islamic history and legend, jurisprudence, history, biography, medicine, botany, geography, divans and mesnevis, encyclopedias, dictionaries and grammars: the catalogue throws light on almost all scholarly aspects of the Turkish world.

His death certificate bears the number one. On September 11, 2001, Father Mychal Judge rushed to the fires as quickly as those who fought them, losing his own life while tirelessly ministering to New York's bravest. "The Book of Mychal" recounts the colorful, astonishing and, at times, troubled life of the beloved Franciscan priest, including his struggles with alcoholism, the Catholic Church hierarchy, and his own sexuality. Daly retracts the footsteps of 'Father Mike' inside the fire house as FDNY Chaplain, inside his friary, and inside the chaos that often befalls New York...Culminating tragically on that fateful day at the Emergency Services Command Post of the North Tower.

Health care decision-makers throughout the world continue to struggle with the conflicting pressures of controlling health care expenditure while satisfying both increased demands and rising public expenditure. Difficult decisions about the allocation of health care are inevitable. Workers in the field are increasingly called upon to consider the economic consequences of their day-to-day practice, and yet there is very little hard data on which to base decision-making. Clinical Economics in Gastroenterology is the first book of its kind to tackle these thorny issues. It applies clinical economics to gastrointestinal disorders, which are amongst the most common complaints and which result in substantial morbidity and mortality. The economic techniques developed to quantify and compare the price and benefits of rival treatments seem remote from clinical reality. This book tries to bring the clinical scenario, with its variety of both presentation and treatment response, together with an economic perspective that assigns monetary values to all aspects of disease. The result is a synthesis of information that yields interesting conclusions on the one hand, and that identifies the need for further research on the other. An introductory chapter outlines the principles of clinical economics and 14 chapters apply these to gastrointestinal disorders or procedures. This book will be of practical help to gastroenterologists and hospital managers trying to evaluate management decisions on grounds of cost and benefit.

The gritty, true blue story of two remarkable cops and an equally extraordinary nurse who provided the spirit and smarts that transformed Fear City into the safest big city in America.NEW YORK'S FINEST is the story of a city's transformation through the tireless efforts of Detective Steven McDonald, Nurse Justiniano, Jack Maple, and a host of hero cops-including the great niece of Jazz Age great Josephine Baker-the finest of The Finest. The son and grandson of cops, Officer McDonald was shot and paralyzed from the neck down while on patrol in 1986. The doctors said that if he did survive, he would be better off dead. It was then he came under the care of one Nurse Nina Justiniano. Where the teenage gunman was produced by the worst of Harlem's social ills, she personified its many graces, rescuing Steven from despair and urging him to transcend hate and bitterness.McDonald was then promoted to detective at the urging of NYPD Deputy Commissioner Jack Maple, a postal worker's son who sported a bow tie, Homburg hat, and two-tone shoes as he implemented transformative crime-fighting strategies to deter violent subway robberies. Coming up in the force, Maple had been routinely mocked for imagining the impossible: that Times Square would one day be a destination for families and tourists. Now, resentments and tensions are mounting in the same neighborhoods that most benefited from the careful consideration of officers like McDonald and Maple. But as NEW YORK'S FINEST illustrates, their legacies, and those of people like Nurse Justiniano, may well rescue New York City from its present state of unrest and struggle in the wake of protests and the pandemic.
