What is a Jew? A Jew is someone who argues with God whether he believes in Him or not.
The war was over long ago, but the Holocaust still lived in his family. It was the subtext of his life, the trauma that held him captive. His father the poet''s song about his birth haunted him from early on. He was named Menachem, consolation . . .
Above the peaks low clouds unfurl
Somber, gray, they spread
Like faces from my far-off land
Their call rings out unsaid:
Bring forth new life, they clamor -
To replace six million dead.
How could he move on? Yet he knew he had to.

The authors'' PBS documentary Thirst showed how communities around the world are resisting the privatization and commodification of water. Thirst, the book, picks up where the documentary left off, revealing the emergence of controversial new water wars in the United States and showing how communities here are fighting this battle, often against companies headquartered overseas.

With forewords by Mario Carpo, Jenny Sabin, and Branko Kolarevic.
This book is the first comprehensive overview of the pioneering works, events, and people that contributed to the paradigm shift defined by computation in architecture.
Only recently has computation fostered profound new ways of designing, fabricating, constructing, and thinking about architecture. While the profession sits at the end of the beginning of this historically transformative shift, it is now possible to look back upon the rapidly maturing landscape of projects, influencers, and tools that have finally begun to catch up with the visionary thinking of the past. Readers are guided through the fascinating and fast-paced historical timeline of the development of computation in architecture. Beginning with an account of the pioneering futuristic thinkers, the authors then guide the reader through the birth of computation, the appropriation of tools and the impact of experimentation on the profession, leading into the legitimacy of research and how paradigms have been expanded. The examples and influences are presented in a way that they can be understood and built upon.
This book is a must-read for students of computation in architecture as well as researchers and practicing architects thinking about how the tools we use and the ways we design our buildings and environments with them can truly impact our lives.

Unlike many of Michael Fox''s earlier work which were fundamentally academic studies, Soul of the Wolf was written in a less formal style to help the reader understand the nature of the wolf and to build understanding of the wolf. It was written at a time when wolf behavior was largely misunderstood and wolves were viewed as nuisances who should be removed from contact with modern society. One of the more interesting aspects of the book is the comparison between wolf and human behavior and how both species, for example, stare to exhibit a threat, enjoy touch and physical contact with "pack" members, and the similar ways both avoid conflict. Fox''s love of wolves come through in this very readable and enjoyable book. Soul of the Wolf is a Dogwise Classic Ebook originally published in 1980 with a revised edition in 1992. Titles selected for this series are out-of-print works that are interesting, informative, and historically significant. They are the foundation for our current knowledge and Dogwise Publishing is keeping them alive for today’s dog enthusiasts.

The Dog: Its Domestication and Behavior by Dr. Michael W. Fox was one of the first and most important studies of hows dogs became domesticated and how that process impacted the behavior we see in our pets today. Written well before (1978) anyone had even thought about the canine genome, this book was a major step forward at the time in our understanding of domestication on behavior. Fox noted that the domestication of dogs influenced the kinds of behavior we see today that is in such contrast to wolves including docility, adaptability, and a reduction of "wild" behavior such as seen in wolves such as aggression and predation. It also clearly resulted in an animal who became quickly dependent on people to survive. This book makes for fascinating reading especially when coupled with the more recent work of modern researchers such as Raymond Coppinger.
