Research in computer performance analysis has focused primarily on dedicated parallel machines. However, future applications in the area of high-performance computing will not only use individual parallel systems but a large set of networked resources. This scenario of computational and data grids is attracting a great deal of attention from both computer and computational scientists. In addition to the inherent complexity of parallel machines, the sharing and transparency of the available resources introduces new challenges on performance analysis, techniques, and systems. In order to meet those challenges, a multi-disciplinary approach to the multi-faceted problems of performance is required. New degrees of freedom will come into play with a direct impact on the performance of Grid computing, including wide-area network performance, quality-of-service (QoS), heterogeneity, and middleware systems, to mention only a few.Reflecting this new reality, the Dagstuhl Workshop on Performance Analysis and Distributed Computing, organized by members of the European Working Group APART, was designed to bring together researchers from both the high-performance computing and the distributed computing areas. Indeed, attendees with expertise in a variety of topics in computer and computational sciences arrived in Dagstuhl at the end of August 2002 to discuss the state-of-the-art and the future of computer performance research as it applies to systems, applications, and Grids. Performance Analysis and Grid Computing comprises selected contributions encapsulating this scientifically rich event. The articles are organized in three parts: Performance Modeling and Analysis, Performance Tools and Systems, and Grid Performance and Applications. It will provide invaluable reading for researchers and developers in the areas of performance analysis, high-end computer systems, and grid computing.

Welcome to the proceedings of the 2006 International Conference on High- Performance Computing and Communications (HPCC 2006), which was held in Munich, Germany, September 13–15, 2006. This year’s conference marks the second edition of the HPCC conference series, and we are honored to serve as the Chairmen of this event with the guidance of the HPCC Steering Chairs, Beniamino Di Martino and Laurence T. Yang. Withthe rapidgrowthincomputingandcommunicationtechnology,thepast decadehas witnessed a proliferationof powerfulparallelanddistributed systems and an ever-increasing demand for the practice of high-performance computing and communication (HPCC). HPCC has moved into the mainstream of c- puting and has become a key technology in future research and development activities in many academic and industrial branches, especially when the so- tion of large and complex problems must cope with very tight time constraints. The HPCC 2006 conference provides a forum for engineers and scientists in academia, industry, and governmentto address all resulting profound challenges and to present and discuss their new ideas, research results, applications, and experience on all aspects of HPCC. There was a very large number of paper submissions (328), not only from Europe, but also from Asia and the Paci?c, and North and South America. This number of submissions represents a substantial increase of contributions compared to the ?rst year of HPCC, which clearly underlines the importance of this domain. AllsubmissionswerereviewedbyatleastthreeProgramCommitteemembers or external reviewers. It was extremely di?cult to select the presentations for theconferencebecausethereweresomanyexcellentandinterestingsubmissions.

This book constitutes thoroughly refereed post-conference proceedings of the workshops of the 17th International Conference on Parallel Computing, Euro-Par 2011, held in Bordeaux, France, in August 2011. The papers of these 12 workshops CCPI, CGWS, HeteroPar, HiBB, HPCVirt, HPPC, HPSS HPCF, PROPER, CCPI, and VHPC focus on promotion and advancement of all aspects of parallel and distributed computing.
