From 1821 until his death, Schubert compiled or specially composed for publication 42 song sets, yet during his own lifetime, and until now, their integrity and importance as sets have been virtually ignored. In this book, Michael Hall asserts that these songs sets are not arbitrary collections, as so often assumed, but highly integrated works in their own right. Approaching these songs as sets the book throws light on Schubert's largely undiscussed intellectual preoccupations. They reveal that he was au fait with most of the philosophical concerns of his time, especially those which touched on Romanticism. But although the sets reflect Romanticism in their topics, Hall maintains that they are the epitome of classical balance. In encouraging students and performers to approach these songs as sets, this study aims to alter perceptions of this important repertory.

They wrote pamphlets and papers denouncing Nazism and the continuation of the war and the premise that all citizens should rise up for their rights and freedoms against this nightmare. They were caught,tried, and then hung for their beliefs but their courage, fortitude,and dedication lives on in all those who struggle against tyranny,despotism and militaristic violence. This book consists of poetry that tries to wake up that passion and courage here in America where we now find ourselves on the brink of watching a democracy turn into a fascist police state. Our founding Fathers were rebels,radicals and dissenters who knew that to change wrong you must wake up, rise up, and fight to instill change. Let us honor those who rose up before us and fight for what we know is right.

Our compassion and sensitivity for each other should not be limited by boudaries or contained within illusionary boundaries or borders. My allegiance is to the word of God, the love of life and to the message. My loyalites are to truth,altruism,non-violence, mercy,justice, and the protection of the weak, the feeding of the hungry, the freeing of the imprisoned, the respect for those whose language i cannot speak, the culture different yet equal to mine,the understanding that we are all on the same level and these truths are sheparding me in quiet gentleness on the golden pathway which is paved in humility,servitude and universal love for one and all. This book was written as a collection of free-verse poetry with the theme being observations from an individuals point of view, reactions to current events, and then aspiration to a higher edification . I have come to a personal conclusion that the greatest objective one can achieve here is to transform love into service. To dissipate ones desires. To discover and embrace an exemplary purpose and this fidelity becomes the caliper of faith, which is the measure of ones worth. Any of us must live according to a belief or risk living a life unfulfilled, undefined, to live selfishly. I aspire.
