Located in the far-western Tarai region of Nepal, Kailali has been the site of dynamic social and political change in recent history. The Partial Revolution examines Kailali in the aftermath of Nepal’s Maoist insurgency, critically examining the ways in which revolutionary political mobilization changes social relations—often unexpectedly clashing with the movement’s ideological goals. Focusing primarily on the end of Kailali’s feudal system of bonded labor, Hoffmann explores the connection between politics, labor, and Mao’s legacy, documenting the impact of changing political contexts on labor relations among former debt-bonded laborers.

This first-of-its-kind book offers clinicians a unique and comprehensive system of cognitive and behavioral testing that is tiered and context-appropriate for the diagnosis of mental status. Because the challenge nowadays with neurologic syndrome presentations is no longer merely lesion localization, but the degree, extent and nature of a cognitive and/or behavioral impairment, this work proposes a more targeted system of mentation evaluation  -- one that incorporates behavioral, neurological, neuropsychiatric, and neuropsychological components. 

Developed by synthesizing outcomes data from a range of stroke registries, this novel work offers a stepwise, hierarchical approach to mentation evaluation largely determined by level of consciousness and degree of cooperation.  Organized across 14 chapters, the book begins with an introduction to the challenges of cognitive and behavioral assessment, as well as a discussion of various clinical presentations ranging from mild behavioral impairment to cognitive reserve and its implications.  Subsequent chapters then address various approaches to mental status evaluation and explore how these tests affect brain physiology. The volume scrutinizes the fundamentally uneven character of industrial production and working class formation by bringing together anthropologists specializing on industrial labour in various locations from South America, Western and Eastern Europe, North Africa, and South Asia. Through their engagement with Leon Trotsky’s concept of ‘uneven and combined development’ the authors unravel the complex relations that connect (and disconnect) labour in their sites of research with workers in other places and other times. As the contributions likewise reveal, the unevenness and combination inherent in industrial developments shape and are at the same time also shaped by the different politics workers in an unequal world pursue, as well as the historical experiences and future expectations of workers that inform these. With the attention the authors pay to the specificities of ethnographic detail as well as to broader regional and global developments the volume demonstrates the value of long-term ethnographic research and is of interest to a wide audience ranging from specialists in the fields of anthropology, history, sociology and development studies to students and activists.

Aktuell herrscht ein beträchtlicher Mangel an Ingenieuren, der die Wirtschaft bei der Entwicklung neuer Produkte und Technologien beeinträchtigt und die Nutzung sich bietender Marktchancen behindert. Das Problem, genügend junge Menschen für Ingenieurberufe zu begeistern, wird derzeit zusätzlich erschwert durch die Umgestaltung der Studiengänge weg vom einstufigen Diplomstudiengang hin zu den international kompatiblen Bachelor- und Masterstudiengängen.

Vor diesem Hintergrund fand am 14. und 15.07.2008 an der RWTH Aachen die erste gemeinsame Plenarversammlung des 4ING-Fakultätenverbundes, des Dachverbandes der Fakultätentage Bauingenieurwesen und Geodäsie, Elektrotechnik und Informationstechnik, Informatik sowie Maschinenbau und Verfahrenstechnik zusammen mit einer von Politik, Wirtschaft und Wissenschaft gemeinsam veranstalteten Fachkonferenz statt.

Dieses Buch beinhaltet alle Vorträge der beiden Veranstaltungen und zusätzlich die von allen beteiligten Verbänden unterzeichnete gemeinsame Erklärung „Die Ingenieurwissenschaften in Zukunft: Forderung und Selbstverpflichtung". Es dokumentiert als solches den gemeinsamen Willen und die Verpflichtung, die notwendigen Prozesse auch zukünftig gemeinsam anzugehen. Politiker, Manager, Personalverantwortliche in Unternehmen und Lehrende an Hochschulen finden hier Argumentationshilfen, Fakten, Fallstudien und nicht zuletzt Anregungen für die Zukunft der ingenieurwissenschaftlichen Ausbildung.
