This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed short papers, workshops and doctoral consortium papers of the 23rd European Conference on Advances in Databases and Information Systems, ADBIS 2019, held in Bled, Slovenia, in September 2019.

The 19 short research papers and the 5 doctoral consortium papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 103 submissions, and the 31 workshop papers were selected out of 67 submitted papers. The papers are organized in the following sections: Short Papers; Workshops Papers; Doctoral Consortium Papers; and cover a wide spectrum of topics related to database and information systems technologies for advanced applications. 

The 11 full papers and 18 short papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 97 total submissions. Education has a substantial impact and influences on almost all sectors in modern society. Different computer-supported educational systems have been developing for many decades to support and make easier teaching and learning processes on all levels of education. Influences of rapid development of Information Communication Technologies and other related disciplines on design and implementation of intelligent, sophisticated educational systems are evident. Nowadays intensive development and wide applications of Artificial Intelligent techniques significantly affect the development of intelligent tutoring systems, smart learning environments that incorporate  virtual and augmented reality and robots.

This book constitutes short papers, Doctoral Consortium and Workshops papers which were held in conjunction with the 28th European Conference on New Trends in Databases and Information Systems, ADBIS 2024, which took place in Bayonne, France, during August 28–31, 2024.

This book focuses on the practical application of AI tools and techniques in software project management, offering detailed theoretical explanations and practical examples of over 40 state-of-the-art machine learning and deep learning algorithms applied across each project phase, as well as in risk and resource management. Helping the business world estimate projects more accurately while saving costs and resources is crucial in today’s rapidly changing, fast-paced technological landscape. Moreover, it presents specific aspects of combined approaches through ensemble models, incorporating Taguchi’s optimization method to further improve estimation accuracy, advancing this area of software project management. A valuable resource for students and professionals to deepen their knowledge and skills, it also serves as a great manual for companies adopting smarter strategies to manage and develop projects more efficiently and effectively.

This book examines the impact of such constraints on elastic time-series similarity measures and provides guidance on selecting suitable measures. Time-series classification frequently relies on selecting an appropriate similarity or distance measure to compare time series effectively, often using dynamic programming techniques for more robust results. However, these techniques can be computationally demanding, which results in the usage of global constraints to reduce the search area in the dynamic programming matrix. While these constraints cut computation time significantly (by up to three orders of magnitude), they may also affect classification accuracy.

Additionally, the importance of the nearest neighbor classifier (1NN) is emphasized for its strong performance in time-series classification, alongside the kNN classifier which offers stable results. This book further explores the weighted kNN classifier, which gives closer neighbors more influence, showing how it merges accuracy and stability for improved classification outcomes.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 10th Balkan Conference in Informatics on Advances in ICT Research in the Balkans, BCI 2024, held in Craiova, Romania, during September 4-6, 2024.

This volume contains the papers of 3 workshops and the doctoral consortium, which are organized in the framework of the 18th East-European Conference on Advances in Databases and Information Systems (ADBIS’2014).

The 3rd International Workshop on GPUs in Databases (GID’2014) is devoted to subjects related to utilization of Graphics Processing Units in database environments. The use of GPUs in databases has not yet received enough attention from the database community. The intention of the GID workshop is to provide a discussion on popularizing the GPUs and providing a forum for discussion with respect to the GID’s research ideas and their potential to achieve high speedups in many database applications.

The 3rd International Workshop on Ontologies Meet Advanced Information Systems (OAIS’2014) has a twofold objective to present: new and challenging issues in the contribution of ontologies for designing high quality information systems, and new research and technological developments which use ontologies all over the life cycle of information systems.

The 1st International Workshop on Technologies for Quality Management in Challenging Applications (TQMCA’2014) focuses on quality management and its importance in new fields such as big data, crowd-sourcing, and stream databases. The Workshop has addressed the need to develop novel approaches and technologies, and to entirely integrate quality management into information system management.

This monograph provides a comprehensive research review of intelligent techniques for personalisation of e-learning systems. Special emphasis is given to intelligent tutoring systems as a particular class of e-learning systems, which support and improve the learning and teaching of domain-specific knowledge.

A new approach to perform effective personalization based on Semantic web technologies achieved in a tutoring system is presented. This approach incorporates a recommender system based on collaborative tagging techniques that adapts to the interests and level of students'' knowledge. These innovations are important contributions of this monograph.

Theoretical models and techniques are illustrated on a real personalised tutoring system for teaching Java programming language.
