Starting with reminiscences of Yang's time at the research centre for theoretical physics at Stonybrook (now named C. N. Yang Institute) by his successor Peter van Nieuwenhuizen, the book is a collection of articles by world-renowned mathematicians and theoretical physicists. This emphasizes the Dialogue Between Physics and Mathematics that has been a central theme of Professor Yang’s contributions to contemporary science.Fittingly, the contributions to this volume range from experimental physics to pure mathematics, via mathematical physics. On the physics side, the contributions are from Sir Anthony Leggett (Nobel 2003), Jian-Wei Pan (Willis E. Lamb Award 2018), Alexander Polyakov (Breakthrough Prize 2013), Gerard 't Hooft (Nobel 1999), Frank Wilczek (Nobel 2004), Qikun Xue (Fritz London Prize 2020), and Zhongxian Zhao (Bernd T. The Proceedings consists of 6 lectures each from Prof L Takhtajan and Prof F Smirnov which were presented during the workshop.

C N Yang is a towering figure of science who has significantly extended human understanding of nature, headed one of the foremost research institutes in physics for three decades, and made great contributions to the advances of Chinese physics. This Festschrift in honor of Professor Yang on his centenary birthday consists of two volumes: Volume A consists of general essays concerning Professor Yang the person, as well as the authors' impressions and reminiscences of him, which are mainly (but not exclusively) in Chinese. This volume, that is Volume B, consists of over thirty scientific papers in English on subjects broadly related to his work and contributed by two different groups: Professor Yang's colleagues, friends, and former students; and graduates from the Tsinghua University Physics Department or Institute for Advanced Study, who have come under the influence of Professor Yang and are now established in their own careers; review papers presented at a Symposium held in his honor in 2021 are also included. It is hoped that this Festschrift can serve as a fit tribute to Professor Yang's lifelong achievements, and also increase public awareness of the many different sides of this giant — his life, his personality, his work, his influence, as well as what he strives for.

Yi-Shi Duan (1927–2016) was one of the world-renowned pioneers in the study of gauge field theory and general relativity. Trained in the former Soviet Union, Prof. Duan returned to China in 1957 to work in Lanzhou University for 60 years. In 1963, he came up with a general co-variant form of the conservation law of the energy-momentum tensor in general relativity. In 1979, he suggested that the gauge potential could be decomposed, which has important implications to gauge field theory. He trained in China a big team of talents in theoretical physics. His contributions to theoretical physics in China have earned him praise from both Professor Shiing-Shen Chern and Professor Chen-Ning Yang.

The book aims to survey recent developments in quantum algebras and related topics. Quantum groups were introduced by Drinfeld and Jimbo in 1985 in their work on Yang–Baxter equations. The subject from the very beginning has been an interesting one for both mathematics and theoretical physics. For example, Yangian is a special example of quantum group, corresponding to rational solution of Yang–Baxter equation. Viewed as a generalization of the symmetric group, Yangians also have close connections to algebraic combinatorics. This is the proceeding for the International Workshop on Quantized Algebra and Physics. The workshop aims to gather experts and young investigators from China and abroad to discuss research problems in integrable systems, conformal field theory, string theory, Lie theory, quantum groups including Yangians and their representations.

This unique volume summarizes with a historical perspective several of the major scientific achievements of Ludwig Faddeev, with a foreword by Nobel Laureate C N Yang. The volume that spans over fifty years of Faddeev's career begins where he started his own scientific research, in the subject of scattering theory and the three-body problem. It then continues to describe Faddeev's contributions to automorphic functions, followed by an extensive account of his many fundamental contributions to quantum field theory including his original article on ghosts with Popov. Faddeev's contributions to soliton theory and integrable models are then described, followed by a survey of his work on quantum groups. The final scientific section is devoted to Faddeev's contemporary research including articles on his long-term interest in constructing knotted solitons and understanding confinement. The volume concludes with his personal view on science and mathematical physics in particular.

This book contains thirty-six short papers on recent progress in a variety of subjects in mathematical and theoretical physics, written for the proceedings of a symposium in honor of the seventieth birthday of Professor F Y Wu, held at the Nankai Institute of Mathematics, October 7–11, 2001. The collection of papers is aimed at researchers, including graduate students, with an interdisciplinary interest and gives a brief introduction to many of the topics of current interest.
