This is a short, surprise book born out of the cosmos, from a dangerously absurd place. The title is inspired by Isabel Wilkerson’s The Warmth of Other Suns. The poems in this book are about the author’s home state of Oklahoma and about love, her temporary home, Guatemala, and about relationship and community politics. They are about the perception of indigeneity that she carries with her and about empathy. They tell stories about love and growth. This book plays with length, with language, with spiritual ideation, and with timelines.Najah hopes this book finds people of color, women, and writers all over the world. She hopes especially that it finds those who give a lot of thought to the physical place they belong.

In 2014, when eBooks weren''t quite as popular as they are now, Najah Amatullah self-published The Risk to Bloom. She was also 26 years old. The poems had all been written prior to 2012. They cover the topics of love and relationships (explicitly in some parts, so read with caution!), the art of writing, a smattering of racial, feminist, and political ideology, and the internal dance of evangelical Christianity. This book contains a few personal revelations, but it primarily contains poems that might resonate with a young femme-identifying person, coming of age, trying to figure out love and religion. It is about big feelings and how those impact our social atmosphere and our internal world.Najah hopes this book finds young girls (and writers) all over the world and she hopes that they follow her work to see everything that has changed in the last 8 or 10 years.
