Haiku från Fågeltofta innehåller uppemot 500 haikudikter. De är skrivna av musikern och artisten Nils Guttorp som bodde i den gamla skolan i Fågeltofta på Österlen i mer än 30 år. Dikterna innehåller erfarenheter, ståndpunkter och reflexioner samlade under ett långt liv, och i vitt skilda ämnen: konst och musik, sport, väder och metafysik, det enklaste och det svåraste. Sammantaget är boken en slags självbiografi i diktens form. Författaren håller konsekvent på haikudiktens mycket krävande form: varje dikt består av tre rader. Den första raden innehåller fem stavelser, den andra sju stavelser, och den tredje raden fem stavelser. Haiku är konsten att säga mycket med få ord. Ett exempel ur boken: Finnes ett nytt liv/ också för mina minnen?/ Ingen ärver dem. Nils Guttorp gick bort i mars 2013, 92 år gammal.

Haikus from Fågeltofta contains about 500 haiku poems. They were written by the musician and painter Nils Guttorp, who lived in the old school in the tiny village of Fågeltofta in the southernmost part of Sweden for more than 30 years. The poems contain experiences, standpoints, and reflexions collected during a long life, and concerning widely varying topics: art and music, sports, weather, and metaphysics, the simplest and the most difficult. Taken together, the collection of poems constitute an autobiography of sorts. The author is strictly adhering to the very demanding haiku format. Every poem has three lines. The first line has five syllables, the second seven, and the third again five. Haiku is the art of saying a lot in a few words. An example from the book: Freedom by itself does not help anybody to choose direction. Nils Guttorp died in March 2013 , 92 years of age. Peter Guttorp: Son of the author. Retired professor of Statistics. Lives in Seattle, USA. Nils Guttorp 1920-2013 He was an artist and a musician. He exhibited paintings in the 40s and 50s, and served later as organist in Västerstad/Östraby, Kävlinge, and Vitaby/Södra Mellby in souther Sweden. Anna Guttorp: Daughter of the author. Has worked as book designer. Collected his papers, chose poems and illustrations for this book. We talked on the telephone every evenong for twelve years.
