Communitisation is an innovative response to a major public administration challenge posed by dismal delivery of grass root level government provided services such as elementary education, primary health care, supply of drinking water and power. The concept is simple in understanding but enormous in its contribution to improvement in governance of the grass roots level public utilities through sharing of State-created assets with the user community and also investment of user communities'' potent resource of social capital. This book presents the first-hand account of the success of communitisation programme in the sectors of elementary education, primary health care and power management undertaken in the state of Nagaland. Analysing the options available for improving the services, it describes how the difficulties en route and the politics of reform are to be taken care of. Also, it deals with the social capital which is central to the process of communitisation.

Encyclopaedia of Nanotechnology is one of its kinds in terms of coverage, scope, elaboration, usefulness and fu touristic perspective. Nanotechnology is now a rapidly growing field of research and development that is cutting across many traditional boundaries. This technology has the ability to control or manipulate on the atomic scale. Nano is a prefix meaning one billionth (1/l,000,000,000). This is why; Nanotechnology overlaps with a wide range of the existing sciences. Subjects that seem at present to have the most direct and constructive involvement with Nanotechnology are: Optical and Quantum Physics; Molecular Biology; Biomedical Engineering (through genetics and Microbiology) ; Electrical Engineering (through MEMS systems); Software Engineering (through AI, Communication and Information Systems). The applications of nanotechnology arc near limitless, but the main focus seems to be on its use in medical applications. That seems to be what''s driving the research, since it would give us the opportunity to cure most diseases, even possibly eliminating the concept of natural death. There are so many other applications, however, ranging from mundane to incredibly profound. Other applications include ultra-fast & high memory capacity computers, highly advanced communication systems, advanced display technology, advanced biological imaging, stem-cell engineering, medical diagnostic tools, sensors for airborne pollutants energy storage materials, photovoltaic cells, fuel cells, polymer nanocomposites, super-tough nanocoatings, landmine detectors, and thousands more. Nanotechnology has, therefore, become the hottest topic of discussion in the scientific world, media, government circles and corporate circles. Although it is a field that has already seen its share of hype, there is a general consensus that over the long term, nanotechnology is likely to reconfigure everything.

A geographic information system, geographical information system, or geospatial information system is any system that captures, stores, analyses, manages, and presents data that are linked to location. In the simplest terms, GIS is the merging of cartography, statistical analysis, and database technology. GIS may be used in archaeology, geography, cartography, remote sensing, land surveying, public utility management, natural resource management, precision agriculture, photogrammetry, urban planning, emergency management, landscape architecture, navigation, aerial video, and localized search engines. Remote sensing images are normally in the form of digital images. In order to extract useful information from the images, image processing techniques may be employed to enhance the image to help visual interpretation, and to correct or restore the image if the image has been subjected to geometric distortion, blurring or degradation by other factors. Agricultural resources data are collected y aircraft and satellite-mounted instruments, which receive reflected energy from target in some frequency of the electromagnetic spectrum. The process involved in electromagnetic remote sensing system namely, data acquisition and data analysis are outlined below and a schematic diagram of electromagnetic remote sensing process. This book should be useful to remote sensing scientists and engineers, geographers, geologists, ecologists and environmental scientists, agricultural and soil scientists and urban and regional planners. Regional, state and university remote sensing centres may like to have this book as well.

Mass communication and journalism are interrelated. In general, print media, electronic media and internet are some of reliable vehicles to provide information to different sections of the society with the sole purpose of increasing awareness. People get information from these media centres for updating their knowledge banks. It is a type of public communication system. It is a sort of information based system or an effective network to facilitate people to share their views, opinions and their own innovative thoughts. In sum, this book can serve the purpose of an introductory sourcebook on the subject area of mass communication. The readers will gain a great deal after going through this book. The exponential growth in media, particularly in electronic and satellite communication and the rapid advances in communication technology, witnessed during the recent years has changed the media landscape as never before. The proliferation of new information and media technologies has brought about fundamental changes in several spheres of human activity-lifestyles, entertainment, work culture, modes of communication; and has also influenced social and cultural values in the society. An other issue confronting us today is the increasing Compulsion of the media to submit to the market forces. In the wake of these developments, the focus has shifted from development support communication to computerization ''and digitations, from rural communication to satellite transmission, from information to infotainment. The contemporary media scenario bristles with a number of significant issues-convergence of computing, telecommunication and broad casting technologies resulting in the ushering of Information Revolution, and its social implications; informatization of society and commodification of information are the newly emerging issues. The book has been divided in three themetic sections : the section on Communication Technology, looks at various issues associated with India''s Information Revolution and its social implications; the second section on National Media Policy analyses issues such as Electronic Media Polity, Prasar Bharati Act, Broadcasting Bill, Press Council of India and Entry of Foreign Press in the country. The third section covers the core issue s of nation building-Shifting Paradigms of Development Communication, Media Strategy for Rural Development, media practice with reference to National Unity, Literacy and Education, Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development, and Women Empowerment. Finally, the concluding chapter looks at trends and developments presently confronting the media, and in a way updates the contemporary perspective on various emerging issues.

Fish are classified in several classes by which its study becomes easier. Fish having similar properties are: contained in the same group. Various classes of fish are Thelodonti, Anaspida, Cephalaspidomorphi, Galeaspida, Pituriaspida, Osteostracy, Gnathostomata, Placodermi. jawless fish are classified under the group Thelodonti, which are very similar to Heterostraci, and are not armored. The Pituriaspida are a small group of armored jawless fish with tremendous nose-like rostrums, which live in the marine, deltaic environments of Middle Devonian Australia. Gnathostomata is the group of vertebrates with jaws. This group is in super class, including the familiar classes of fish, birds, mammals, and so for the and a sister group of jawless vertebrates Agnatha. The placodermi are armored prehistoric fish known from fossils, dating from the Late Silurian to the end of the Devonian periods. This eminent work has an exhaustive and exclusive coverage of fish in a simple, but effective style. This work would be caballero prove beneficial for all classes of readers.

Fish is a rich source of animal protein and its culture is an efficient protein food production system from aquatic environment. The main role of fish culture is its contribution in improving the nutritional standards of the people. Fish culture also helps in utilising water and land resources. It provides inducement to establish other subsidiary industries in the country. Fisheries can be categorised into two types-fin fisheries and non-fin fisheries. The former is fisheries of true fishes, whereas the later is the fisheries of organisms other than true fish like prawn, crab, lobster, mussel, oyster, sea cucumbers, frog, sea weeds, etc. Fin fisheries can be further categorised into two types-capture fisheries and culture fisheries. Capture fisheries is exploitation of aquatic organisms without stocking the seed. Recruitment of the species occur naturally. This is carried out in the sea, rivers, reservoirs, etc. The basic principles that govern the analysis of acute toxic effects are by and large directly applicable to cases of chronic toxicity. Chronic toxic analyses tend to differ from analyses of acute toxic effects primarily in that considerable emphasis must be placed on the "slow step" of the process, which causes the effect to be chronic rather than acute. Biotechnology has great potential to influence and benefit livestock and fisheries. Modern techniques of biotechnology offer the potential of moving any cloned gene from any organism into any other organism and confer much greater precision and speed in achieving results as compared to conventional techniques. The book aims at providing up-to-date information on different aspect of fisheries and fish toxicology with an indication of potential areas for future research.
