This study addresses the interpretation of probability, often debated in the scientific community. This problem has been examined for centuries; perhaps no other mathematical calculation suffuses mankind's efforts at survival as amply as probability. At the dawn of the 20th century David Hilbert explored the foundations of probability calculus; this topical volume proposes a novel, exhaustive solution to this issue, outlining a philosophical and mathematical approach inspired by well-tested software techniques. Through the prism of computer technology it provides an innovative view on the theory of probability. The text discusses in detail the mathematical tools used to clarify the meaning of probability, integrating numerous examples and case studies.

The Structural Theory of Probability addresses the interpretation of probability, often debated in the scientific community. This problem has been examined for centuries; perhaps no other mathematical calculation suffuses mankind's efforts at survival as amply as probability. In the dawn of the 20th century David Hilbert included the foundations of the probability calculus within the most vital mathematical problems; Dr. Rocchi's topical and ever-timely volume proposes a novel, exhaustive solution to this vibrant issue.Paolo Rocchi, a versatile IBM scientist, outlines a new philosophical and mathematical approach inspired by well-tested software techniques. Through the prism of computer technology he provides an innovative view on the theory of probability. Dr. Rocchi discusses in detail the mathematical tools used to clarify the meaning of probability, integrating with care numerous examples and case studies. The comprehensiveness and originality of its mathematical development make this volume an inspiring read for researchers and students alike.

The problem of probability interpretation was long overlooked before exploding in the 20th century, when the frequentist and subjectivist schools formalized two conflicting conceptions of probability.

This work illustrates research conducted over a ten-year timespan and addresses a fundamental issue in reliability theory. This still appears to be an empirically disorganized field and the book suggests employing a deductive base in order to evolve reliability as a science. The study is in line with the fundamental work by Gnedenko.Boris Vladimirovich Gnedenko (1912 – 1995) was a Soviet mathematician who made significant contributions in various scientific areas. His name is especially associated with studies of dependability, for which he is often recognized as the 'father' of reliability theory. In the last few decades, this area has expanded in new directions such as safety, security, risk analysis and other fields, yet the book ‘Mathematical Methods in Reliability Theory’ written by Gnedenko with Alexander Soloviev and Yuri Bélyaev still towers as a pillar of the reliability sector’s configuration and identity. The present book proceeds in the direction opened by the cultural project of the Russian authors; in particular it identifies different trends in the hazard rate functions by means of deductive logic and demonstrations. Further, it arrives at multiple results by means of the entropy function, an original mathematical tool in the reliability domain. As such, it will greatly benefit all specialists in the field who are interested in unconventional solutions.

This book deals with two main topics. The first is a theory that aims to unify the many interpretations of probability presented in the literature. The second uses this comprehensive theory of probability to answer the questions of quantum mechanics that have long been debated. The entire book proposes original solutions that several experimental cases substantiate.
