Born of Irish immigrant stock, Kennedy earned his own living from the age of fourteen after his formal education ended at Grade Six. In a circle of privilege, he was the outsider. Despite this, his intelligence, imagination, and wit, coupled with an intense love of language and learning, opened many doors. Kennedy''s choices in religion, friendship, marriage, and business were deeply influenced by the same yearning for justice and defence of humane values that informed his verse, stories, and essays. A successfully published poet at the age of 26 (The Shrouding, 1933), Kennedy soon left his literary world for that of the emerging business of advertising in order to support his family during the Depression. Acknowledging Kennedy''s tendency to embroider the facts of his life a tendency rooted in the same talent that made him an important poet and an extremely successful advertising copywriter in corporate America Patricia Morley traces the roots of Kennedy''s preoccupations and the development of his art from his birth in Liverpool in 1907 to his self-described "exile" in the United States. His return to Canada in 1976 brought renewed public recognition of his place among the "Montreal Poets." Kennedy experienced culture shock, yet he thrived and, in blackly comic letters, raged against the youth culture of his grandsons and the ironies of aging. With sympathy and insight into the vulnerability of genius, Morley catches the triumph of a most unusual life and restores a forgotten writer to his rightful place.

In the late 19th century, the impact of the Canadian wilderness on writers led to the formation of a new and uniquely Canadian genre, the realistic animal story. This collection of Ernest Thompson Seton's short stories reflects his talents as writer, naturalist, and artist.

Are Japanese women happy with their roles as wives and mothers, content to leave the stress of fourteen-hour days in offices and commuter trains to men? Or are they frustrated by the limitations of this traditional arrangement? Why are Japanese women actively discouraged from pursuing careers when they have one of the highest levels of education in the world? Will a new generation of women be able gain equality at home and at work? With elegant prose, noted biographer and critic Patricia Morley tackles these questions as she explores the daily lives and the hopes and aspirations of dynamic Japanese women. Based on hundreds of interviews, The Mountain is Moving looks at the many facets of women's lives, including education, marriage and child rearing, the workplace, eldercare, the political arena, and volunteerism. The interviews are complemented by readings of a diverse and compelling range of stories and novels by and about Japanese women.

Ultrasonic Sectional Anatomy centers on the imaging processes, methodologies, and approaches employed in sectional anatomy. The selection first offers information on the brain and cerebral ventricles, eye and orbit, and the thyroid and adjacent soft tissues of the neck. The book also examines the breast, heart, and abdominal muscles and skeletal boundaries. Topics include anterior abdominal wall, pelvic muscles, diaphragm, recording the cross-sectional echocardiogram, and echography of the normal breast. The text elaborates on the upper abdominal viscera and the kidneys, including renal anomalies, spleen, pancreas, adrenal glands, and gall bladder and bile ducts. The manuscript then takes a look at the gastrointestinal tract and peritoneal cavity and viscera of the lower abdomen and pelvis. Discussions focus on scrotum and penis, urinary bladder, ureter, seminal vesicles, and prostate, and peritoneal recesses. The selection is a dependable reference for readers interested in ultrasonic sectional anatomy.
