Intelligent railway alignment design offers a comprehensive exploration of intelligent railway alignment optimization It considers a a variety of critical topics, starting with the optimal selection of key technical standards for railway design, and then introduces the comprehensive geographic information model. The methods for evaluating the suitability of the railway alignment based on the comprehensive geographic information model are discussed, together with economic optimization models aimed at cost-effective railway alignment design. In addition, the book considers optimization models for managing risks related to typical geological hazards and minimizing environmental impacts. Intelligent search algorithms for solving the railway alignment optimization models are explained in detail, including corridor searching algorithms and 3D alignment searching algorithms. Additionally, the book explores concurrent optimization strategies for coordinating railway alignments with stations and large temporary engineering projects. Finally, it introduces intelligent models and methods for reconstructing and optimizing existing railway alignments, ensuring that both new and updated railways operate efficiently and sustainably. Is a valuable reference for researchers working on intelligent optimization of railway alignmentHelps readers improve the alignment design quality and efficiencyFor software developers, the book serves as a reference for developing intelligent optimization software for railway alignment design

This monograph provides a comprehensive overview of methods for searching, evaluating, and optimizing highway location and alignments using genetic algorithms (GAs), a powerful Artificial Intelligence (AI) technique. It presents a two-level programming structure to deal with the effects of varying highway location on traffic level changes in surrounding road networks within the highway location search and alignment optimization process. In addition, the proposed method evaluates environmental impacts as well as all relevant highway costs associated with its construction, operation, and maintenance. The monograph first covers various search methods, relevant cost functions, constraints, computational efficiency, and solution quality issues arising from optimizing the highway alignment optimization (HAO) problem. It then focuses on applications of a special-purpose GA in the HAO problem where numerous highway alignments are generated and evaluated, and finally the best ones are selected based on costs, traffic impacts, safety, energy, and environmental considerations. A review of other promising optimization methods for the HAO problem is also provided in this monograph.
