Pauline Harmange hasst Männer – und zwar alle bis auf ihren Ehemann. In ihrem kurzen, pointierten Essay appelliert sie offenherzig, provokativ und nicht ohne Witz an alle Frauen, es ihr gleichzutun und sich nicht mehr darum zu scheren, was eine männerdominierte Umwelt ihnen entgegenbringt. Dabei ist ihr Buch keineswegs ein Aufruf zur Gewalt, sondern eine Aufforderung zum Umdenken: Frauen sollten das Recht haben, Männer abzulehnen und ihnen misstrauisch zu begegnen. Denn dieser Perspektivwechsel kann ein emanzipatorischer und freudvoller Umgang mit einer Welt sein, die noch immer von Ungleichheiten in den Geschlechterbeziehungen geprägt ist. Männerhass ist für Harmange eine Möglichkeit der Befreiung in ein selbstbestimmteres Leben, in dem mehr Raum für weibliche Solidarität und mehr Verschwesterung sein sollte, eine Einladung an alle Frauen, Männer lustvoll zu meiden und Kraft aus den Beziehungen untereinander zu schöpfen.

In Anaïs'' Leben läuft nichts rund. Ihr Freund hat sie verlassen, den Job hat sie verloren. Eigentlich hält Anaïs nichts mehr auf dieser Welt.Sie reist nach Limoges, angeblich ein guter Ort zum Sterben, und findet dort Unterkunft bei einer älteren Italienerin: Tiziana Conti bietet ihr an, in ihrem Palazzo zu wohnen, wenn sie dafür für sie kocht. Anaïs stimmt zu. Sie lernt Tizianas Freundinnen kennen und wird Teil einer großen Familie. Kann es sein, dass das Leben Schöneres für sie bereithält als bisher angenommen? Sie beginnt, sich selbst zu mögen. Nur als der Sohn von Tizianas bester Freundin auf den Plan tritt, ist Anaïs nicht begeistert. Aber der lässt sich davon nicht abschrecken.

Seit Sommer 2022 ist der Paragraf 219 a zum «Werbeverbot für Abtreibungen» in Deutschland abgeschafft worden, das Thema wird jedoch weiterhin viel diskutiert, sowohl in Deutschland als auch in den USA, Polen, und Frankreich. In der Tradition von Annie Ernaux'' Das Ereignis beschreibt Pauline Harmange nahbar, verletzlich und ehrlich, welche inneren und äußeren Konflikte ihren eigenen Schwangerschaftsabbruch begleiteten. Da Abtreibungen in der öffentlichen Diskussion immer noch mit Scham, Egoismus und Schuld konnotiert sind, fühlen sich auch die Betroffenen oft schmutzig, schuldig und egoistisch. Harmange plädoyiert leidenschaftlich für das Selbstbestimmungrecht von Frauen und reflektiert dabei auch andere Fragen rund um das Thema Weiblichkeit: Warum werden Frauen ohne Kinder immer noch als «halbe» Frauen wahrgenommen? Warum greifen nach wie vor Konzepte wie «Rabenmutter», wenn eine Mutter berufstätig sein will? Und warum ist Verhütung immer noch so häufig Frauensache?

Hän väittää, että jos naiset lakkaavat asettamasta miesten tunteet ja mielipiteet etusijalle, he voivat kääntää huomionsa naisten välisiin suhteisiin täynnä vastavuoroisuutta, lempeyttä ja voimaa. Kiukun ja vihan salliminen voi siis luoda tilaa sisaruudelle ja naisten keskinäiselle solidaarisuudelle.
