In this collection of essays, leading environmentalists and philosophers explore the relationship between environmental ethics and policy, both in theory and practice. The first section of the book focuses on four approaches to change in ethical theory: ecological science, feminist metaphysics, Chinese philosophy, and holistic postmodern technology. In subsequent sections the contributors emphasize the need for nontraditional solutions and attempt to expand awareness of the most pressing practical problems. Among the topics discussed are the possibilities of real international cooperation, the inequitable but economically intractable issue of global gasses, the political and ethical challenges of city planning, and the growing evidence of fundamental inappropriateness in treating land as legal private property.This volume is based on essays presented in 1992 at the Second International Conference on Ethics and Environmental Policy. The conference was held in response to the increasing need for a new ethics that would counter the traditional human-centered, dominantly individualistic approach of the industrial world toward the environment.

Gerade wenn darum geht, lebensbegleitende „Bildung für Alle“ in allen Regionen und Lebenslagen zu gewährleisten, sind dazu die gesellschaftlichen, ökonomischen und bildungssystembezogenen Entwicklungen kritisch zu diskutieren.

Seit dem Jahr 2015, dem Beginn der ungesteuerten Masseneinwanderung in die Bundesrepublik Deutschland, hat sich das Land dramatisch verändert. Jetzt, 2023, hat sich die Zahl der illegalen Grenzübertritte nochmals erhöht, und auch in den Zwischenjahren ist die Zuwanderung hoch gewesen. Die sich seit 2015 erschreckend kumulierenden Zahlen haben dazu geführt, dass sämtliche Kapazitäten der Bundesrepublik für den Asylbereich (Unterkünfte, Betreuungsleistungen usw.) mittlerweile vollständig aufgebraucht sind. Die Politik versucht mit Interimslösungen für die weitere Unterbringung gegenzusteuern, und ruft damit zunehmend Wut und Unverständnis bei der einheimischen Bevölkerung hervor. Eine Begrenzung der Zuwanderung wird zwar propagiert, aber tatsächlich nicht vollzogen.Die "Energiewende" in Deutschland sorgt weltweit für Kopfschütteln. Während andere Länder weiterhin auf Kohleverstromung oder Atomenergie setzen, soll der Anteil der "Erneuerbaren Energien" (Energie ist nach dem Energieerhaltungssatz nicht erneuerbar!) hierzulande extrem gesteigert werden. Die Volatilität dieser Energien stellt das europäische Stromverbundnetz zunehmend vor Stabilitätsprobleme. Durch die weltweit höchsten Strompreise in Deutschland verstärken sich die Abwanderungstendenzen der Industrie. Dazu kommt die Demontage der deutschen Schlüsselindustrie schlechthin: der Verbrenner-Automobilproduktion.Alle Zeichen für Deutschland stehen auf Sturm. Kein Bereich des Landes bleibt davon ausgespart: Bildung, Beschäftigung, Sozialsystem, Verteidigung, IT, innere Sicherheit. Aber im Verbund mit den Medien versucht die Regierung zu beschwichtigen und Hoffnungen auf eine gute Zukunft zu verbreiten. Lebensrealität und politische Wunschvorstellungen waren bei noch keiner Bundesregierung so weit voneinander entfernt wie heute.
