Durch sein Wirken für moderne Streitkräfte hat Bernhard Gertz die Bundeswehr geprägt wie kaum ein anderer. Der Ausbau der Beteiligungsrechte, die Öffnung aller Laufbahnen für Frauen und der Aufbau der Einsatzversorgung sind untrennbar mit dem langjährigen Bundesvorsitzenden des Deutschen BundeswehrVerbandes (DBwV) verbunden.
