Plants are the backbone of life on Earth. Today, however, plant communities around the world are under threat. Scientists estimate that at least 100,000 plants are threatened with extinction—that''s more than one-third the total known species of plants on the planet! The main threats to plants today are habitat destruction, invasive species, and over- collection. The loss of a plant species can have devastating effects on ecosystems as a whole, as other species lose their sources of food and shelter. Additionally, plants play a crucial role in stabilising soils and help prevent erosion. The tools of contemporary biotechnology, such as molecular biology and tissue culture etc. are being increasingly applied to assist the conservation of plant diversity. This book introduces the reader to biotechnological techniques which are currently used to conserve endangered plant species, genetic resources, horticultural and crop plant germplasm etc. It is believed that the book will act as a useful reference to students, researchers and professionals across a range of agricultural sciences, life science and other allied fields. Contents: Applications in Agriculture Biotechnology; Vegetables and Fruits in the Fertile Crescent; Soil Moisture and Water Saturation; Principles in Organic Farming; An Introduction to Restoration Genetics; Agricultural Microbes; Biotechnology for the 21st Century: New Horizons; Major Breeding Objectives.

Elements of Quantum Chemistry textbook are for all level in Chemistry courses or a senior level course in Quantum Chemistry. It assumes very little background in physics and mathematics. All necessary mathematical and physical concepts are introduced and developed in the text. Although much of the material is timeless, the book has been selectively updated throughout, with perhaps the most significant revision being the incorporation of computer power. This book has also included a series of short math "refresher" inserts spaced intermittently throughout the book to help students focus on the physical principles being explained rather than struggling with the underlying mathematics. Each chapter includes a broad range of problems and exercises.

The biotic and abiotic resources of land are being exploited at a rate where their reserves will not last very long. The sea, in near future, would become increasingly significant source of minerals and energy. This has been possible due to the technical advancement in the exploration and exploitation of the resources of the sea. The volume describes the geography of oceans, geography of biotic and abiotic resources and minerals of ocean and exploitation of ocean minerals by the developed countries and efforts of India in exploitation of minerals and resources at Antarctica. It also throws light on the ocean and mineral trade routes. The study will go a long way in making the littoral countries aware of the sea wealth. This should prove of value to all those engaged in the field of geography, geology and oceanography.

Members of the phylum Mollusca are among the most conspicuous invertebrates and include such familiar forms as clams, oysters, squids, octopods and snails. During the last 18th and 19th centuries, when natural history occupied the time of many well to do gentlemen, shell collections were as popular as today. Such collections, often containing species gathered from various parts of the world, have contributed considerably to our knowledge of the phylum. In abundance of species, mollusca comprise the largest invertebrate phylum aside from the Arthropoda. Over, 1,00,000 living species have been described. In addition, some 35,000 fossile species are known. The Term Mollusca (L. mollis = soft)mean soft bodied and for the first time coined by Aristotle in his famous Historia Animalium to describe various kinds of cephalopods and gastropods. The term Mollusca was used by Jonston (1650) to include cephalopods and barnacles. Phylum Mollusca is divided directly into five classes-Amphineura, Gastropoda, Scaphopoda, Lamellibranchia and Cephalopoda, by Paseneer (1892) has remained standard ever since. This encyclopaedic work in three volumes is designed to present entire vital information on Mollusca. Profusely illustrated in the light of latest researches, this work is a dependable reference work for students and researchers in the discipline.
