This Festschrift is a celebration of Ed Dawson's life and impact on research, teaching and leadership. Ed originally trained as a mathematician and first worked as a schoolteacher before joining Queensland Institute (later University) of Technology where he engaged with the emerging world of applied cryptology. He first concentrated on symmetric-key cryptography, analyzing randomness, searching for new building blocks and designing cryptographic engines, he later expanded his interests to public-key cryptography with a particular focus on the implementation aspects of elliptic curves.Ed was made a Fellow of the IACR for his visionary service and for fostering the Asia-Pacific cryptographic community. He cofounded conferences, workshops, courses and communities, first in Australia and then throughout the Pacific Rim. Ed's instincts and experiences were always interdisciplinary and he developed successful networks of researchers and practitioners in mathematics, computer science, engineering, business and law. In recent years he broadened his expertise to incorporate the human, socio-technical, aspects of security.Throughout his career Ed was a noted teacher, mentor and motivator, building and encouraging teams with effort, knowledge, enthusiasm and humor. His successes are reflected in the papers contributed to this volume.

The 11th Australasian Conference on Information Security and Privacy (ACISP 2006) was held in Melbourne, 3–5 July, 2006. The conference was sponsored by Deakin University, the Research Network for a Secure Australia, and was organized in cooperation with the University of Wollongong. The conference brought together researchers,practitioners and a wide range of other users from academia, industries and government organizations. The program included 35 papers covering important aspects of information security technologies. The papers were selected from 133 submissions through a two-stage anonymous review process. Each paper received at least three reviews by members of the Program Committee, and was then scrutinized by the whole committee during a two-week discussion. There were 19 papers eligible for the “best student paper” award. The award was given to Yang Cui from the U- versity of Tokyo for the paper “Tag-KEM from Set Partial Domain One-Way Permutations. ” In addition to the regular papers the program also included three invited talks. Bart Preneel gave an invited talk entitled “Electronic Identity Cards: Threats and Opportunities. ” Mike Burmester’s talk was “Towards Provable - curity for Ubiquitous Applications. ” The details of the third talk had not been ?nalized at the time of publication of these proceedings. We wish to thank all the authors of submitted papers for providing the c- tent for the conference;their high-quality submissions madethe task of selecting a program very di?cult.

The First International Conference on Digital Rights Management: Technology, Issues, Challenges and Systems (DRMTICS – pronounced ‘dramatics’), took place in Sydney, Australia on 31st October - 2nd November, 2005. It was or- nized by the Centre for Information Security of the University of Wollongong and in cooperation with the International Association of Cryptologic Research (IACR) and IEEE Computer Society’s Task Force on Information Assurance. DRMTICS isan internationalconferenceseriesthat coversthe areaof digital rights management, including research advancements of an applied and theor- ical nature. The goal is to have a broad coverage of the ?eld and related issues and subjects as the area evolves. Since the Internet and the computing infr- tructure has turned into a marketplace for content where information goods of various kinds are exchanged, this area is expected to grow and be part of the ongoing evolution of the information society. The DRM area is a unique blend of many diverse disciplines that include mathematics and cryptography, legal and social aspects, signal processing and watermarking, game theory, infor- tion theory, software and systems design and business analysis, and DRMTICS attempts to cover as much ground as possible, and to cover new results that will further spur new investigations on the foundations and practices of DRM. We hope that this ?rst conference marks the beginning of a fruitful and useful series of future conferences. This year, the conference received 57 submissions out of which 26 were - cepted for presentation after a rigorous refereeing process.

This series of conferences started with the First Workshop on Information Hiding, held in Cambridge, UK in May 1996. Since then, the conference locations have alternated between Europe and North America. The conference has been held annually since 2005. For many years, information hiding has captured the imagination of - searchers. This conference series aims to bring together a number of closely related research areas, including digital watermarking, steganography and s- ganalysis, anonymity and privacy, covert and subliminal channels, ?ngerpri- ing and embedding codes, multimedia forensics and counter-forensics, as well as theoretical aspects of information hiding and detection. Since its inception, the conference series has been a premier forum for publishing research in these areas. This volume contains the revised versions of 18 accepted papers (incor- rating the comments from members of the Program Committee), and extended abstracts of two (out of three) invited talks. The conference received 39 anonymous submissions for full papers. The task of selecting 18 of them for presentation was not easy. Each submission was reviewed by at least three members of the Program Committee or external - viewers reporting to a member of the Program Committee. In the case of - authorship by a Program Committee member, ?ve reviews were sought. There is no need to say that no member of the Program Committee reviewed his or her own work. Each paper was carefully discussed until consensus was reached.
