Not another textbook for neuropathology! Yes, Our publishers helped us with this last problem by we hear you and feel your pain. In fact, that was our insisting on black and white photographs. We ini­ initial response when we were approached to write tially protested, noting that many recent textbook the book you are now holding. In surveying the reviews seemed to be primarily guided by whether expanse of currently available neuropathology illustrations were in color (good) or black and white textbooks, however, we came to feel that there was (bad). However, upon further reflection we accepted a place for a book that could combine our career this mandate as a blessing in disguise, allowing the experiences of trying to discern what is known (and reader to focus on differences in morphology, rather knowable) with the perennially proposed question, than tincture, as a guide to correct diagnosis. In fact, "What do we need to know?" Together we tried to one of us (M. e. ) has always been a fan of black and produce a book that would be practical, understand­ white photography, both in histologic atlases as well able, and to the point (minimizing reading time as in the immortal photographs of artists ranging from during intraoperative consultation). Frozen section of Neuropathology-related cases is performed while the patient is undergoing surgery. Intraoperative consultation is used to help guide intraoperative management of the case and to ensure that adequate and appropriate tissue has been obtained for purposes of making an accurate final diagnosis. Frozen section diagnosis is often a highly demanding situation for the pathologist, who must render a diagnosis quickly and provide sound guidance and advice. Red mud is a waste material derived as residual from the Bayer process by the caustic digestion of crushed bauxite at elevated temperature. It is chemically characterized by the presence of Si, Al, Fe, Ca, Ti as well as an array of minor constituents such as Na, K, Cr, Ni, Mn, Cu, Zn and Pb. Red Mud: Production, Composition and Impact begins by giving a brief review of laboratories, in situ and remote sensing techniques applied to characterize the RM waste materials focusing on both standard and novel methods.Next, the authors deal with composite materials based on different kind of polymers and red mud, and attempts to summarize the literature about these kind of materials. A great deal of attention is also paid to the possible applications of these new alternatives to classical materials.The main characteristics of several red muds from own studies and the scientific literature are described, and relevant examples of chemical composition variability of red muds emphasize the variability in chemical and mineralogical composition of red muds.This compilation systematically presents the updated scientific literature data regarding the applications of red mud waste in environmental protection. The authors present aspects related to red mud composition and the types of treatments applied to red mud to enhance its adsorption or catalytic performances. The performance of red mud-adsorbents in the removal of inorganic anions, heavy metals and organic compounds from wastewaters, and gaseous effluents is also discussed.The final chapter reviews the existing technological solutions to valorize the red mud in order to develop other engineering activities. They arise from meningothelial (arachnoidal cap cells), typically situated in the meninges, near the dura. However, these cells can be found in other locations less commonly which accounts for the development of meningiomas in unusual locations (sometimes outside the central nervous system). Although the majority of these tumours are considered low grade neoplasms, classification and grading schemas have identified subtypes of meningiomas that are associated with more aggressive behaviour or have unusual presentations. The fourteen chapters in this book address some of these various aspects of this diverse group of tumours.

The central nervous system can be affected in many hereditary tumor syndromes, also sometimes referred to as familiar tumor syndromes, genetic tumor syndromes or cancer predisposition syndromes. Although a few of these have been recognized for a long period of time and have been well delineated with regard to clinical presentations and genetic abnormalities, some have been only recently defined. These disorders are highly complex and patients are best cared for in specialized centers which have broad interdisciplinary expertise to handle the wide array of phenotypic manifestations of these disorders. This book contains a collection of chapters which focus on a subset of these syndromes.
