Human Intelligence and Artificial Intelligence: Connecting Cognitive Science with AI offers a comprehensive, multi-dimensional view of where AI stands today in relation to human intelligence and the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead. While currently cognitive science and AI courses are offered distinctly, this book equips readers with a foundational understanding of human cognition and how it shapes the field of AI. The structure of the book is designed to move progressively from accomplished AI domains to emerging frontiers. Real-world examples, state-of-the-art models, and active research directions are paired with philosophical, psychological, and social insights to ground the technical discussions in human relevance. As human-machine interactions enter a new era with the advent of agentic AI, understanding human cognitive processes becomes essential to designing, operating, and governing agentic systems and to building a safe, trustworthy, and responsible AI ecosystem.Provides a foundational understanding of human cognition and how its principles have shaped the evolution of Artificial Intelligence.Presents an overall glimpse of how traditional AI works and how AI is evolving towards general artificial intelligence based on intelligent human centered agentic AI systemsBridges disciplines-AI, cognitive science, psychology, ethics, and design-to make the case for responsible, human-aligned AI development
