Low external-input technology (or LEIT) is an increasingly prominent subject in discussions of sustainable agriculture. There are growing calls for self-sufficient agriculture in an era experiencing diminishing returns from reliance upon expensive synthetic pesticides and fertilizers. There are many reasons to support strategies for low external input farming, including a concern for environmental sustainability, increased attention to resource-poor farmers and marginal environments, and the conviction that a better use of local resources in small-scale agriculture can improve farm productivity and innovation. But despite the increased attention to self-sufficient agriculture, there is little evidence available on the performance and impact of LEIT.

This book examines the contributions and limitations of low external input technology for addressing the needs of resource-poor farmers. For the first time a balanced analysis of LEIT is provided, offering in-depth case studies, an analysis of the debates, an extensive review of the literature and practical suggestions about the management and integration of low external input agriculture in rural development programmes.

Kenny and his dog, Poochy, live in a small town close to the forest and mountains. They like to hike, fish, and explore caves and secret places. 

While exploring a cave, they encounter a strange new animal that looks like a bear but has wings like a bird and the feet of a mountain goat. Poochy asked the funny-looking creature,  "Strange animal, what are you?"

The animal answered in a sad voice, "I am a Bambearzo."

The Bambearzo feels alone, rejected, and bullied by the other animals. Kenny and Poochy help him to like himself and to find acceptance.



Kenny and his dog, Poochy, are always looking for fun and adventure on the mountain and in the forest close to their home. But when they see a father lion, a mother lion, and a little lion coming down the mountain towards them, they are scared. Luckily, the lions are friendly.

It begins to rain really hard so Kenny and Poochy invite the lions into a big cave. Other animals have already huddled there--an eagle, a fox, a coyote, and a bear. 

After the storm, a big rainbow appears over the mountain. At the end of every rainbow is a pot of gold. All of the animals want to find it. 

In the little lion''s quest to find the pot of gold, he learns an important lesson.
