Edited by a team of the world’s leading interventional cardiologists and educators, this new book is created with an eye to giving the reader a solid, practical, and clinically focused understanding of this important class of drugs, from basic science to a clear-headed discussion of complex topics such as combination therapies, drug-to-drug interactions, and resistance to antiplatelet agents.
This important new book:
Begins with a concise but thorough discussion of platelet biology and pathophysiology so that readers understand how antiplatelet agents work and why they produce such a varied range of complications, from minor GI upset to potentially life-threatening conditions such as neutropenia, a critical shortage of white blood cells. Thoroughly covers platelet function testing, including novel techniques. Clarifies current best practice regarding the use of antiplatelet agents in both chronic and acute cardiovascular disease. Reviews all types of antiplatelet agents – from aspirin to recently approved drugs – including indications, clinical outcomes, and side effects.
Written by an international “who’s who” of experts in the field, Antiplatelet Therapy in Cardiovascular Disease also includes an entire section covering the use of antiplatelet drugs in PCIs, including percutaneous valve repair, which makes this text particularly essential to interventional cardiologists.

"Chronic total occlusions continue to represent one of the greatest challenges to interventional cardiologists." - Cardiovascular Research Foundation - Chronic Total Occlusions or CTOs can be found in 30% of patients with coronary artery disease. Despite advances, CTOs remain one of the most frequently identified lesions in interventional cardiology yet least likely to be successfully treated. The prevalence of the disorder is vexing. The threat to your patients is significant. The condition is complex. And, treatment remains a challenge. Learn how to approach CTOs from internationally-recognized physician-educators Turn to Chronic Total Occlusions: A Guide to Recanalization, 2e for expert insight into the world of CTOs and clear, practical guidance you can apply directly and immediately in your cath lab. Offering the most comprehensive information available, this completely updated second edition provides you wih:
Full-color images from the diagnostic modalities that are essential in identifying CTOs Data on indications and efficacy from the most recent clinical trials Practical guidance on the selection and use of the latest wires and devices Even more tips and tricks from leading operators from the world’s busiest centers Clinical cases to illustrate some of the more complex scenarios and common complications And more!Chronic Total Occlusions: A Guide to Recanalization, 2e is the guide you can count on to improve the CTO success rate at your facility. An essential survey of the advancing field of transcatheter mitral valve repair and replacement
Minimally invasive transcatheter therapies have revolutionized the treatment of structural heart disease. Greatly improving outcomes for higher-risk patients, transcatheter aortic valve replacement is now established as a safe and effective alternative to invasive surgery. The mitral valve, however, poses further challenges. Contending with one of the heat’s most anatomically and pathologically complex components, practitioners and engineers have yet to perfect a stream-lined, widely deliverable therapy—though they are getting closer and closer to this goal.
Transcatheter Mitral Valve Therapies provides a far-reaching survey of the field of mitral interventions in its current state. Highlighting the stumbling blocks preventing transcatheter mitral valve replacement’s widespread adoption, the book’s international group of contributors discuss the improvements to be made in repair and replacement procedures, as well as the adjunctive use of imaging and pharmacologic therapies. This ground-breaking text:
Provides detailed explanations of transcatheter repair, transcatheter replacement, and adjunctive proceduresFeatures chapters on the use of imaging to aid in patient selection, procedure planning, and intra-operative guidanceDiscusses the importance of minimally invasive approaches for mitral valve repairExamines anticoagulation following transcatheter mitral valve interventionsOutlines the possible future of transcatheter mitral valve therapyTranscatheter Mitral Valve Therapies is an important, up-to-date resource for interventional cardiologists, as well as all clinical researchers and practitioners seeking information on this vital and developing treatment.

Calcific aortic stenosis (AS) is the most common heart valve anomaly, with a largely age-dependent prevalence, a calculated annual incidence rate in the range of 4-5% in general populations and up to 6% in patients aged 75 years and over.
Surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) was previously the only option available to patients with symptomatic, severe aortic stenosis. After the first-in-human transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) was performed by Alain Cribier in 2002, the treatment strategy for patients with symptomatic AS has been revolutionized. Since then, TAVI has grown exponentially, as a result of accruing evidence demonstrating safety and efficacy, and reduced invasiveness compared with SAVR. TAVI devices are continuously expanding to include several valve design options. As this strategy is continuously evolving to treat younger patients and lower-risk populations, aside from the long-term durability of the valve systems, procedural safety will become the focus of newer-generation devices.
This book is a practical handbook devoted to the optimization of TAVI procedures, through a focused containment of complications. Through an integrated evaluation of the clinical status, imaging techniques and laboratory findings, the authors provide readers with clear messages on preventive and therapeutic recommendations.
