But how can we really understand the digital world when so much of the writing through which we grapple with it remains deeply problematic? Drawing on science and technology studies and feminist theory, iMedia examines the gendering of imedia or smart technologies such as smart phones and Google glass. This book demonstrates how and why vitalism - the idea that life cannot be explained by the principles of mechanism - matters now. Vitalism resists closure and reductionism in the life sciences whilst simultaneously addressing the object of life itself.
