Getting students engaged and motivated to learn English is often difficult. How do you get your students thinking critically? How do you influence them to contribute to class discussion and activities? How do you ensure that they are confident and well prepared for exams? Bright Ideas uses an enquiry-based approach in order to tap into children's natural curiosity and get them more involved in their own learning. This persuades them to asktheir own questions andfind their own answers. Every unit asks students a 'Big Question'. This gets students thinking about the subjects they know and love, such as family, school, and music. As they move through the content in each unit, they are provided with the skills and language necessary to answer the unit's 'Big Question' whilst having fun! This is followed by a 'Big Poll Question' which prompts students to think about the topic on a more personal and evaluativelevel. 'Think' tasks encouragepupils to apply their own experience and opinions to a particular topic and language practice is provided through songs, stories, and games. Through Online Practice and interactive eBooks containing class activities and homework tasks, students are able to further practice the content of each lesson. Automatic marking and progression tracking tools make it easier for development to be assessed. The flexible teaching package offers a range of tools and resources to ensurethat you areable to create the perfect lesson for your students. The Classroom Presentation Tool with on-screen Class Book and Activity Book provides comprehensive content for teachers to adapt to any teaching situation, class size or ability. The course provides a flexible, fresh and fun way to teach and learn English and ensures exam success for your students.

The Middle East is in the midst of considerable and unpredictable changes, but deeply patrimonial political systems do not change overnight – and neither do the international and regional structures that have helped them to endure for so long. The informal rules that guide Yemeni society and its dysfunctional political settlement look set to endure, in spite of unprecedented protests. Entangled in a narrative of acute crisis and possible state failure, the country still relies on foreign assistance to prop up its ailing economy. Fearing the threat from al-Qaeda on Yemeni soil as well as the crisis of the Houthi insurgency and the southern secessionist movement, regional and Western powers have continued to bankroll the regime without taking significant steps to address the underlying causes of instability and threat. Drawing on research carried out on the ground in Yemen, this Adelphi examines the shadowy structures that govern political life and sustain a network of social elites predisposed against any far-reaching systemic reform. It looks behind the scenes at the regime’s opaque internal politics, at its entrenched patronage system and at the ‘rules of the game’ that will shape the behaviour of the post-Saleh rulers, to offer insights for how the West may better engage within that game

This beautifully illustrated book seeks to tell children the true, diverse and decolonised story of art around the world.Even before they could write, people were telling stories with pictures. And though art is universal, the story we know about it is not. A Whole World of Art opens your eyes to a global view of art by taking you on a whirlwind tour around the world and through time. With two companions – a boy and a girl – travel through 25 destinations from the history of art, circling the globe. As they travel, they explore the rich visual canon from each culture they visit through looking at different key works and examine the lives of the artists who created them. Each spread shows a stunning, edge-to-edge illustrated scene from art history portraying an artist or artists making important artwork within a detailed background. A paragraph of introductory text and small captions around the page give fascinating details about the artists and the time and place in which they lived. Art project ideas provide inspiration throughout. Visit: Athens, Greece (450 BCE), where you will marvel at the gleaming gold statues and marble architecture; The Ming Dynasty, China (1368–1644), where you will discover intricate designs, drawings and calligraphy on paper and porcelain; Benin City, Africa (1550), where you will meet the brass-casters who create elaborately detailed plaques and ornaments only for the Oba (or king); Coyoacan, Mexico (1907–1954), where you will get to know the painters Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera; Written by art history teacher Dr Sarah Phillips, who rewrote and decolonised the A Level syllabus in the UK, and illustrated by talented artist Dion Mehaga Bangun Djayasaputra, this gorgeous book offers a fresh, inclusive view of the history of art.
