The participants focussed on the theoretical and numerical treatment of “descriptor” systems, i.e., differential-algebraic equations (DAEs). The book contains 14 contributions and is organized into four parts: mathematical analysis, numerics and model order reduction, control as well as applications.

The book is the proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Computational Engineering (ICCE 2024), Darmstadt, Germany, 30th September to 2nd October, 2024. Computational Engineering is a modern and ultidisciplinary science for computer based modeling, simulation, analysis and optimization of complex engineering applications and natural phenomena. The book contains an overview of selected approaches from numerics and optimization of Partial Differential Equations as well as uncertainty quantification and machine learning techniques, typically in multiphysics environments. Where possible, application cases from engineering are integrated.

ECMI, the European Consortium for Mathematics in Industry, is the European brand associated with applied mathematics for industry and organizes highly successful biannual conferences. In this series, the ECMI 2010, the 16th European Conference on Mathematics for Industry, was held in the historic city hall of Wuppertal in Germany. It covered the mathematics of a wide range of applications and methods, from circuit and electromagnetic device simulation to model order reduction for chip design, uncertainties and stochastics, production, fluids, life and environmental sciences, and dedicated and versatile methods. These proceedings of ECMI 2010 emphasize mathematics as an innovation enabler for industry and business, and as an absolutely essential pre-requiste for Europe on its way to becoming the leading knowledge-based economy in the world.

This book contains the proceedings of the 8th Workshop on Coupled Descriptor Systems held March 2013 in the Castle of Eringerfeld, Geseke in the neighborhood of Paderborn, Germany. It examines the wide range of current research topics in descriptor systems, including mathematical modeling, index analysis, wellposedness of problems, stiffness and different time-scales, cosimulation and splitting methods and convergence analysis. In addition, the book also presents applications from the automotive and circuit industries that show that descriptor systems provide challenging problems from the point of view of both theory and practice. The book contains nine papers and is organized into three parts: control, simulation, and model order reduction. It will serve as an ideal resource for applied mathematicians and engineers, in particular those from mechanics and electromagnetics, who work with coupled differential equations.
