Through a comparison of recent international case studies from festivals, museums, and gallery spaces, the book analyzes their new contexts, and describes the affective reception of those events. Die vorliegende Arbeit fasst zeitgenössische europäische Filme aus Deutschland, Großbritannien und Frankreich unter dem Begriff der Entgrenzungsfilme zusammen. Die ausgewählten fiktionalen Filmbeispiele porträtieren Jugendliche in Grenzsituationen. Auffällige ästhetische Merkmale sind der Einsatz von Musik, zumeist von Pop- und Rockmusik, die dem Zuschauer schon vor der Filmentstehung bekannt ist. In diesem Zusammenhang wird eine Analysemethode vorgeschlagen, die sowohl ästhetische als auch ökonomische Aspekte des Einsatzes von Musik umfasst und eine "pragmatische Poetik" genannt wird. In Fassbinder und Deleuze - Körper, Leiden, Entgrenzung treffen der Großmeister des deutschen Autorenkinos Rainer Werner Fassbinder und der französische (Film-)Philosoph Gilles Deleuze aufeinander. Ausgangspunkt ist Fassbinders vielleicht persönlichstes Filmmelodram IN EINEM JAHR MIT 13 MONDEN von 1978. Anhand der im Film immer wieder auftauchenden Themenbereiche Körper, (Trans-)Sexualität, Identität und Politik werden Leid(t)motive und Inszenierungsstrategien herausgearbeitet. Getragen wird die Analyse von den filmtheoretischen Ansätzen Gilles Deleuzes, der unterschiedliche Aspekte aus verschiedenen geisteswissenschaftlichen Disziplinen für eine nähere Bestimmung des kinematographischen Apparates benutzt hat. So entwickelte er eine komplexe Systematik von verschiedenen Bildformen, um eine filmimmanente Theorie der audiovisuellen Wahrnehmung aufzustellen. Senta Siewert gelingt es, eine Verbindung der Taxonomie von Deleuze zur filmischen Arbeit von Fassbinder zu ziehen, wodurch sie eine neue Sicht auf Fassbinders Fragen nach Geschlechterverhältnissen, Vergangenheitsbewältigung und Identität gewinnt.
