This companion exercise and solution book to A Classical Introduction to Cryptography: Applications for Communications Security contains a carefully revised version of teaching material used by the authors and given as examinations to advanced-level students of the Cryptography and Security Lecture at EPFL from 2000 to mid-2005. A Classical Introduction to Cryptography Exercise Book covers a majority of the subjects that make up today's cryptology, including symmetric or public-key cryptography, cryptographic protocols, design, cryptanalysis, and implementation of cryptosystems. Exercises do not require an extensive background in mathematics, since the most important notions are introduced and discussed in many of the exercises. The authors expect the readers to be comfortable with basic facts of discrete probability theory, discrete mathematics, calculus, algebra, and computer science. The 2005 issue of the International Workshop on Practice and Theory in Public Key Cryptography (PKC 2005) was held in Les Diablerets, Switzerland during January 23-26, 2005. It followed a series of successful PKC workshops which started in 1998 in Paci?co Yokohama, Japan. Previous workshops were succ- sively held in Kamakura (Japan), Melbourne (Australia), Cheju Island (South Korea),Paris(France),Miami(USA), andSingapore.Since 2003,PKChasbeen sponsoredbytheInternationalAssociationforCryptologicResearch(IACR).As in previous years, PKC 2005 was one of the major meeting points of worldwide research experts in public-key cryptography. I had the honor to co-chair the workshop together with Jean Monnerat and to head the program committee. Inspired by the fact that the RSA cryptosystem was invented on ski lifts, we decided that the best place for PKC was at a ski resort. Jean Monnerat and I hope that this workshop in a relaxed atmosphere will lead us to 25 more years of research fun. PKC 2005 collected 126 submissions on August 26, 2004. This is a record number. The program committee carried out a thorough review process.In - tal, 413 review reports were written by renowned experts, program committee members as well as external referees. Online discussions led to 313 additional discussionmessagesand 238emails. The reviewprocesswasrun using email and the Webreview software by Wim Moreau and Joris Claessens. Every submitted paperreceivedatleast3reviewreports.Weselected28papersforpublicationon October 28, 2004. Authors were then given a chance to revise their submission over the following two weeks. This proceedings includes all the revised papers.

Mycrypt 2005 was the inaugural international conference on cryptology hosted in Malaysia. The conference was co-organized by the Information Security - search Lab at Swinburne University of Technology (Sarawak Campus), NISER (National ICT Security and Emergency Response Centre) and INSPEM (Ins- tute for MathematicalResearch)at UPM (UniversityPutra Malaysia).Mycrypt 2005 was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia during September 28-30 2005, in conjunction with the e-Secure Malaysia 2005 convention. Therewere90paper submissionsfrom23 countriescoveringall areasof cr- tologic research, from which 19 were accepted. We would like to extend our thanks to all authors who submitted papers to Mycrypt 2005. Each paper was sentanonymouslytoatleast3membersoftheInternationalProgramCommittee for reviews and comments. The review comments were then followed by disc- sions among the Program Committee. A recipient of the Best Paper Award was also selected after voting among Program Committee members. The winning paper was "Distinguishing Attacks on T-functions" by Simon Kunzli .. (FH A- gau, Swizerland), Pascal Junod (Nagravision SA, Switzerland) and Willi Meier (FH Aargau, Swizerland).These proceedings contain revised versions of all the accepted papers. The conference program included three keynote papers: Hideki Imai (Tokyo University)presenteda paper entitled "TrendsandChallenges forSecurer Cr- tography in Practice". Moti Yung (Columbia University) presented a paper entitled "E?cient Secure Group Signatures with Dynamic Joins and Keeping Anonymity Against Group Managers". Colin Boyd (QUT) presented a paper entitled "Security of Two-Party Identity-Based Key Agreement". Eurocrypt collected 198 submissions on November 21, 2005. The Program Committee carried out a thorough review process. In total, 863 review reports were written by renowned experts, Program Committee members as well as external referees. Online discussions led to 1,114 additional discussion messages and about 1,000 emails. The review process was run using e-mail and the iChair software by Thomas Baign` eres and Matthieu Finiasz. Every submitted paper received at least three review reports. The Program Committee had a meeting in Lausanne on February 4, 2006. We selected 33 papers, noti?ed acceptance or rejection to the authors, and had a cheese fondue. Authors were then invited to revise their submission. The present proceedings include all the revised papers. Due to time constraints the revised versions could not be reviewed again. We delivered a “Eurocrypt Best Paper Award.” The purpose of the award is to formally acknowledge authors of outstanding papers and to recognize - cellence in the cryptographic research ?elds. Committee members were invited to nominate papers for this award. A poll then yielded a clear majority. This year, we were pleased to deliver the Eurocrypt Best Paper Award to Phong Q.

SAC 2001, the eighth annual workshop on selected areas in cryptography, was held at the Fields Institute in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Previous SAC wo- shops were held at Queen's University in Kingston (1994, 1996, 1998, and 1999), at Carlton University in Ottawa (1995 and 1997) and at the University of Wat- loo (2000). The conference was sponsored by the center for applied cryptographic research (CACR) at the University of Waterloo, Certicom Corporation, C- munications and Information Technology Ontario (CITO), Ecole Polytechnique F'ed'erale de Lausanne, Entrust Technologies, and ZeroKnowledge. We are gra- ful to these organizations for their support of the conference. The current SAC board includes Carlisle Adams, Doug Stinson, Ed Dawson, Henk Meijer, Howard Heys, Michael Wiener, Serge Vaudenay, Sta?ord Tavares, and Tom Cusick. We would like to thank all of them for giving us the mandate to organize SAC 2001. The themes for SAC 2001 workshop were: - Design and analysis of symmetric key cryptosystems. - Primitives for private key cryptography, including block and stream ciphers, hash functions, and MACs. - E?cient implementations of cryptographic systems in public and private key cryptography.- Cryptographic solutions for web and internet security.

Fast Software Encryption (FSE) is an annual research workshop devoted to the promotion of research on classical encryption algorithms and related cryp- graphic primitives such as hash functions. When public key cryptography started to receive wide attention in the 1980s, the much older and more basic art of secret key cryptography was sidelined at many research conferences. This motivated Ross Anderson to organise the rst FSE in Cambridge, England in December 1993; subsequent workshops followed at Leuven, Belgium (December 1994), Cambridge again (February 1996), and Haifa, Israel (January 1997). These proceedings contain the papers due to be presented at the fth FSE workshop in March 1998 at the Hotel du Louvre in Paris. This event is organized by the Ecole Normale Superieure and the Centre National pour la Recherche S- enti que (CNRS) in cooperation with the International Association for Cryp- logic Research (IACR), and has attracted the kind support of Gemplus and Microsoft, the world leaders in smart cards and software { two domains very closely connected to our research concerns.
