While the word "automation" may conjure images of robots taking over jobs, the reality is much more nuanced. In construction, for instance, automation is less likely to diminish employment opportunities than it is to increase productivity. Indeed, automation alongside the global need for new and updated infrastructure and better and more affordable housing can help shape the direction of the construction industry. The key will be anticipating and preparing for the shift, in part by developing new skills in the current and future workforce. This book presents all aspects of automation in construction pertaining to the use of information technologies in design, engineering, construction technologies, and maintenance and management of constructed facilities. The broad scope encompasses all stages of the construction life cycle from initial planning and design, through the construction of the facility, its operation, and maintenance, to the eventual dismantling and recycling of buildings and engineering structures.
Features:
Examines Building Information Management systems, allowing on-site execution of construction more efficient, and for project teams to eliminate mistakes and better coordinate the workforce Presents the latest information on the automation of modular construction, production in factories, including 3-D printing of components such as facades, or even load-bearing and essential components1 754 kr

Multiscale Simulations and Mechanics of Biological Materials
A compilation of recent developments in multiscale simulation and computational biomaterials written by leading specialists in the field
Presenting the latest developments in multiscale mechanics and multiscale simulations, and offering a unique viewpoint on multiscale modelling of biological materials, this book outlines the latest developments in computational biological materials from atomistic and molecular scale simulation on DNA, proteins, and nano-particles, to meoscale soft matter modelling of cells, and to macroscale soft tissue and blood vessel, and bone simulations. Traditionally, computational biomaterials researchers come from biological chemistry and biomedical engineering, so this is probably the first edited book to present work from these talented computational mechanics researchers.
The book has been written to honor Professor Wing Liu of Northwestern University, USA, who has made pioneering contributions in multiscale simulation and computational biomaterial in specific simulation of drag delivery at atomistic and molecular scale and computational cardiovascular fluid mechanics via immersed finite element method.
Key features:
Offers a unique interdisciplinary approach to multiscale biomaterial modelling aimed at both accessible introductory and advanced levels Presents a breadth of computational approaches for modelling biological materials across multiple length scales (molecular to whole-tissue scale), including solid and fluid based approaches A companion website for supplementary materials plus links to contributors’ websites (www.wiley.com/go/li/multiscale)1 894 kr

Meshfree Particle Methods is a comprehensive and systematic exposition of particle methods, meshfree Galerkin and partitition of unity methods, molecular dynamics methods, and multiscale methods. Most theories, computational formulations, and simulation results presented are recent developments in meshfree methods. They were either just published recently or even have not been published yet, many of them resulting from the authors´ own research. The presentation of the technical content is heuristic and explanatory with a balance between mathematical rigor and engineering practice. It can be used as a graduate textbook or a comprehensive source for researchers, providing the state of the art on Meshfree Particle Methods.

"Advances in Soft Matter Mechanics" is a compilation and selection of recent works in soft matter mechanics by a group of active researchers in the field. The main objectives of this book are first to disseminate the latest developments in soft matter mechanics in the field of applied and computational mechanics, and second to introduce soft matter mechanics as a sub-discipline of soft matter physics. As an important branch of soft matter physics, soft matter mechanics has developed rapidly in recent years. A number of the novel approaches discussed in this book are unique, such as the coarse grained finite element method for modeling colloidal adhesion, entropic elasticity, meshfree simulations of liquid crystal elastomers, simulations of DNA, etc. The book is intended for researchers and graduate students in the field of mechanics, condensed matter physics and biomaterials. Dr. Shaofan Li is a professor of the University of California-Berkeley, U.S.A; Dr. Bohua Sun is a professor of Cape Peninsula University of Technology, South Africa.
