The present book deals with microplastics and human health. With massive scientific advancements, some believe that we are safe, secure, happy and healthy. However, the ever-growing use and pervasive nature of micro- and nano-plastics (MNPs) defy this dictum. MNPs come in many forms with different chemical compositions lasting for a very long time in the environment. They affect all living beings including plants, marine life and humans, warranting attention from clinicians, health professionals, and environmentalists alike. When microplastics become nanoplastics (becoming smaller), it poses even more danger. MNPs have been found in almost every part of the human body including the brain, heart, muscles and other tissues of the body. MNPs tamper with eukaryotic transcriptional and translational machinery and have been associated with several neurological disorders. The authors provide a succinct overview encompassing different aspects of MNPs, their routing, including food chains, and likely remedial measures. It is envisaged that this book will serve as a wake-up call and will augment overall awareness about the use of MNPs, impelling readers to be mindful of their use and long-term consequences.

Why are you silent, friends? What’s happened in Magadh?Magadh, Shrikant Verma’s masterpiece, takes its name from the ancient Indian kingdom of Magadh, which rose to prominence in the sixth to second centuries BCE. First published in Hindi in 1984, it is widely regarded as one of the most important works of modern Indian poetry.A chorus of narrators—commoners, statesmen, nameless wanderers—pieces together the histories of ancient cities and kingdoms on the Indian subcontinent, their rise to splendor, their decline and eventual fall. In poems that are stark and urgent yet richly allusive, Verma lays bare these kingdoms’ tales of corruption, guilt, ignorance, and arrogance.Rahul Soni’s landmark translation, finally available in the United States, stays faithful to the spareness and the haunting, incantatory cadences of the original text, revealing how startlingly prescient Magadh remains today.

A chorus of narrators – commoners, statesmen, nameless wanderers – pieces together the histories of ancient cities and kingdoms on the Indian subcontinent, their rise to splendour, their decline and eventual fall. Rahul Soni’s landmark translation stays faithful to the spare, haunting, incantatory cadences of the original, revealing how startlingly prescient and relevant Magadh remains today.‘Forty years after, these poems are more relevant than ever, telling of power’s hollow victories, the peculiar burden of joy, how sorrow finds us wherever we may hide.’ Jeet Thayil
